After 5+ years of coaxing, Nick finally picks up a paintbrush and gives his new proxied Arnor force the old college try.

These minis are based on (and nearly identical to) the Stark soldiers from Game of Thrones. They work well for Arnor as well!

Love it I defos need some of these frost grave kits they have so many bits and scale almost perfectly! OG Radagast is awesome too. I used to play Hungary(not as much as Scotland ofc) for the mad colour scheme and the big square sheilds they had.
@windrushwargamers27452 жыл бұрын
Cheers dude :) Old Radagast is the objectively better design in my opinion, a wizard instead of a hobo. Hungary was my go-to as well alongside Mongols haha. The value with the Fireforge kits is so good, you get all sorts of bags, extra weapons capes etc.

They look really good, big fan of the color scheme. The dark green on the shields/banner looks dope. Always had the same thought regarding the Arnor insignia :D The old Denethor conversion is also really cool. And I as well prefer the old Radagast over the new/movie version, I picked him up just recently, thought of painting him as one of the blue wizards, but you're conversion idea is also really fitting. Like that he's pointing onto something he sees :D
@windrushwargamers27452 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kaos, would love to get a look at the Blue Wizard conversion. What profile would you use for him?
@Old_Shatterhans2 жыл бұрын
@@windrushwargamers2745 I think I wouldn't change much, carefully remove the raven and give him something else. But if I ever come round to converting him, I'll make sure to send you a picture. Which rules to use is a hard question, first thought would be Radagast or Galdalf, the Grey. But each of them has something in their rules which disqualifies them (Narya/Glamdring for Gandalf and Sebastian/Raven for Radagast). So I guess the best profile would be Cirdan or another low-tier eleven caster. The stats could be explained by them being Maia and them being weaker than the other Istari could be explained by them abbandoning their mission first. What would you pick?
@windrushwargamers27452 жыл бұрын
@@Old_Shatterhans I would personally lean more towards Cirdan or maybe an unarmoured Elrond just so they feel more unique compared to the other wizards. Even though there is no evidence that they fell to the power of the dark lord I have seen some people play the Blue Wizards as proxies for Saruman/ Grima or even Kardush the Firecaller which looks fun. What do you think of that?
@Old_Shatterhans2 жыл бұрын
@@windrushwargamers2745 Yeah, but they're also missing the Staff of Power, a Wizard normally has, that's the main reason I thought of the wizards profiles first. Maybe I have to come up with one myself. But reading you mentioning Elrond got me thinking: maybe just use Galadriel&Elronds profile, and then play the 5 Istari as the Vanquishers. Would be cool to field them all at once, and they would be reasonably strong. Yeah that would be the other idea, I tend to say playing them as Saruman wouldn't resemble them, as Saruman is pretty strong. But playing them as Kardush or as this new named Easterling Shaman, whose name I always forget, I can imagine,. But I don't thought about that too much, as I didn't make any progress with my evil forces. Still painting up Gondorians right now ^^'

So, the Arnor emblem gw picked out comes from a bit of a deep dive into the Silmarillion. As I understand it, it is supposed to be a representation of the Ring of Barahir, a gift from the Elven king Finrod to the eponymous Barahir, father of Beren. It was an heirloom of the Kings of Numenor until it was passed to a cadet branch of the family, the lords of Andunie, of whom Elendil was the last. The ring is then used as a symbol of kingship for Arnor (the same way the white tree is for Gondor) up until the kingdom's collapse, when it is passed down the line of Isildur's descendants along with the shards of Narsil. The ring was in the shape of two serpents (represented by the coiled line on the banner) with an emerald stone (the diamond in the center of the banner). The emerald is also why green is the color for arnor troops, though that is gw's choice and not tolkiens, it is understandable. Love the miniatures, think I'm gonna steal the idea for my own Arnor army (or maybe a house ruled Angmarim force).

@@windrushwargamers2745 My pleasure! Presently I'm putting together a force of Clansmen of Enedwaith from Wargames Atlantic Late Romans and Goth Warriors. Not sure what tabletop rules to use for them, maybe Corsairs of Umbar, or just house rule it. Intention is to do terrain for Tharbad and do a campaign centered there in the 2nd Age

Fireforge byzantines! I don't really like the full plate that the Jackson movies gave Gondor, it really should be more a dark ages early medieval at most. I'd consider the Russians for Arnor. A more northern, colder version of the same theme
