I have just watched about six videos on how to make your own candles and yours is by far the best. You are sharing some really helpful tricks that make the whole process a lot easier (how to hold the wick, how to clean the glassware afterwards, how much "raw" wax to use). Thumbs up!

I made a batch of candles last night and am burning one right now! So easy and the scent is beautiful! One additional hint for you...I melted a few drops of the wax on the bottom/center of the jelly jar and then quickly adhered the wick to the melted wax, along with doing the chop stick trick!

Thanks for the idea of coating the Pyrex measuring cup with the Jojoba. Beeswax was my nemesis because it begins to harden so quickly and clean up was horrible. Now, I can get back to using beeswax without the dread. Yay!

I loved this video. I have not made candles yet, but I have made beeswax tarts for a plug-in tart warmer. I use a silicone cupcake/muffin liner to hold the tart until it cools, and then the silicone is easy to peel away from the wax.

Lovely energy! It was great to learn about the chopsticks. I was hoping for more guidance on how much essential oil to use per measurement of the wax, but I can look around. Might want to mention not to pour the wax too hot because it cracks. Usually 70 is good.

We're happy to hear your feedback, Ginger! And thank you for the suggestion. 💜 For essential oil to beeswax ratio; we find that 1 ml of essential oil (about 25 drops) for every 1 oz (28 gm) of beeswax works well. How strong the aroma is is personal preference.

I made these today, actually and wow they are amazing. I don't have Vintage Patchouli, just the regular version so I used that. My trick, instead of chopsticks to hold the wick steady since I don't have them- Kabob skewers! I'm burning my candle now, and although it took me a bit to like the scent, it's growing on me now. It smells very earthy and deep, and somewhat of a fireplace almost, I can't put the name on it but I've smelled it before and it's oddly comforting. I also made another candle- I was in the Christmas mood (I know, it's the middle of June lol) and I used Siberian Fir, Black Spruce, Sweet Orange and Cinnamon Bark (25 of each). I can't wait to burn that next, it smells so good just taking the top off :) So anyone, I do recommend trying this candle recipe and make your own, it's really fun!

Hi Anna D! I make candles for personal enjoyment, I'm sorry I don't sell them so I couldn't say from experience. What I can suggest is to visit local markets and compare vendors selling homemade candles to help you get a better idea of what price range you could sell them for. I hope that idea helps you!
@annad1942

thanks for your reply Andrea, however it is difficult to find beeswax made candles , most homemade or handcrafted candles are made out of soy wax which i detest because there are traces of paraffin and soy is already a GMO product so I am also opposed to such wax made candles and to top it off scented synthetically. So i firmly believe beeswax candles therefore are priceless!!!

Perhaps check the temperature of the beeswax. Wax scorches at 200 degrees, I let me wax cool to 155-163 before adding oils else it "burns off" so much of the essential oils. So, cool wax before pouring, or use a thermometer. Your scent choice is lovely.

Very nice video and demonstration. Thank you. Just a coupe of suggestions, as I have been canning my whole life, (over 40 years) I would suggest that you heat up your glass containers in a 100 degree oven (usually the lowest setting on most ovens) so that you do not risk breaking the container. I learned at a young age of this. Also I would be concerned of not tossing towel on the range, more specifically really close to the hot burner you had just used. :-)

Where do you get your bees wax pellets? Can the smaller ones be used? (They look like pebbles!) Also, I have made a batch of candles following your video, and the wick burns out quickly and I am not sure why. Perhaps I am trimming it too short. I plan to purchase the wicks that you use and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the video. . .amazing job!

I get my beeswax from Aromatics.com www.aromatics.com/products/beeswax-pellets You could use the smaller pellets and do try the wicks I use. You can find those here: www.amazon.com/CandleScience-Piece-Natural-Candle-Medium/dp/B0092RKNDQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1448659762&sr=8-5&keywords=cotton+wicks+for+candles

Do you ever use coconut nut oil with the beeswax? If so what would the be the ratio; and would one uses the liquid coconut oil or the solidified?
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 6 жыл бұрын
I don't usually use coconut oil in my beeswax candles so I really can't advise you on how much to use. You can experiment and I might suggest using unrefined coconut oil so that it helps to solidify the candle when it cools.

Hi Andrea Loved this video. So simple and easy to make as I have tried a few times to make candles and it doesn't.come out like I would like them to. Also I find my wicks tend to melt it droop when I add the melted wax. What wicks do you use? I have tried to hold the wick with chop sticks but the wick tends to move. Blessings to you 💜

I have recently read this, could you tell me if it is true: Beeswax is a hard wax with a high melting point that burns hotter than other waxes used for making candles. Essential oils become toxic when overheated. The essential oil heated by beeswax candles will boil due to the high heat and become scorched very quickly. Anytime we add any foreign substance to a pure beeswax candle , these impurities will clog the wicking and affect how clean the candle burns. These impurities will show as carbon capping or mushrooming on the tip of the wicking , resulting in incomplete combustion which produces soot. Soot is carbon - unburned beeswax.
@Zathurastra
@Zathurastra 6 жыл бұрын
Mushrooming, excessive soot and carbon buildup are likely caused by an improper wick size rather than additives in the wax. There's a whole science behind choosing the right wicks based on the type of wax used, the shape and size of the candle, etc., but if you don't want to hurt your brain, just buy 3-4 different sizes (thicknesses) and experiment. With container candles like this, what you're looking for is for the wax to be completely molten about half an inch down. If it's creating a pool around the wick but leaving the sides solid, try a larger wick.

Beeswax is a hard wax with a higher melting point, Pam Power. I've not experienced any negative burning or soot problems with the candles I've made. Making sure you have the proper wick size can help to make sure the candle is burning properly.

Hi Andrea, I may have missed it in the comments, but how do you clean your utensils after? Regular dishwashing soap and hot water? Looking forward to making some candles! Thanks for being out there. Love your work.
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 6 жыл бұрын
I oil my measuring cup with jojoba oil and then wipe down all the utensils after I use them before washing in very hot water and soap. Beeswax can be difficult to remove and I designate a measuring cup for making candles. You can also run them through a dishwasher set on high heat but make sure to wipe away all that you can before to help with cleanup.

This was fun! I'm wondering about using other essential oils for fragrance. The patchouli and vetiver are both deep, slowly evaporating aromas. The fragrance would have "staying power". Would you use the same amount of EO's if you were using lighter, more quickly evaporating oils?

You have such a soothing voice! How do you know the ratios and scent combinations? I made a candle with beeswax once and it smells like honey. I love the smell of honey but I wanted to be able to smell the essential oil more. Do you have any tips for this? Thank you for this video! Hope you make more candle videos with soy wax as well.

Maria Paz Dominguez, I love the smell of beeswax too! I've found that using oils like vetiver, patchoul, cedarwood, etc that are heavy in their scent works best. Generally using 1 ml (25 drops) of essential oil for every one ounce of beeswax is sufficient for a good aroma.

Hello. I hope all is well. I wanted to ask. From someone with more experience than myself. How can you actually make these candles more fragrant? I failed at creating a scented beeswax candle and it came out more like the natural wax scent.
@aromatherapyoils
@aromatherapyoils 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sidney! We are not experts in making candles so we really can't advise you from a lot of experience, but we do find that 1 ml of essential oil (about 25 drops) for every 1 oz (28 gm) of beeswax works well. How strong the aroma is is a personal preference.
