Cooking scallops isn't actually that hard, just sear both sides until their both nicely coloured. Cooking alot of scallops in a highly pressured environment however, is a different story

Jamie Oliver is the first person to admit he isn't as good as Gordon, he's a bloody good cook/line chef with a lot of knowledge who got lucky and developed a career from it. I'm guessing if things were different he might have ended up working for Gordon as a head chef for one of his restaurants. Gordon only ribs on him because Gordon is a very competitive person and Jamie is the competition with an empire that rivals his own.
