All nice and great,yet i found something that for me,was an unspoken secret,the way yoi pierced the pipe cutline with the oxy torch,blowing the molten steel away from you,is a game changer for me,especially because we have a different burner head style,way blunt and thicker,german made,it works but not as focused like the american style,the pierce walk-away into the cutline is a great way to prevent molten steel splash over myself and that way it also prevent the tip cloging up with the splashes,yaaaay,found a new secret ❤🎉

You can take the grinding disk and cock it about 30 degrees and grind both sides even at the same time, go one way, cock it 30 degrees the other and go the other way.. your bevel will be even..

On test coupons for me it was very important to have a uniform land . Uniform land uniform heat sink . Bead would go in easier. On the pipe you are welding 24". A 3/32 gap and a 3/32 land and was using 5/32 for bead or what ever suited the gap aloud by procedure . Always run the tight spots off first and always stuck a tool in and ran the bead towards the tool it helped to keep the gap in place and uniform. In Canada Seldom did we test for a job on the 45 . vertical weld and always xrayed . Seldom too, straps were cut in the field . When one done procedure tests it was xrayed and straps cut . Never ever had to do a saddle weld . It is just not done here . The one stupid thing here is you have to have a up hand pressure ticket to test down hand and be a certified "B" pressure welder . It's the law to weld on pressure pipe

I'm looking into starting a small welding. One problem I have is I have a F-150 four wheel drive in a old 1969 Lincoln welder generator should I get a F-250 or 2500 series pickup and get a bigger welder when the time goes on or just start out what I have

I’m not Austin but I have a little insight for you. I know a fellow who started this way. Now, his welding business was part-time but this still applies. He had a half ton truck and he made a skid to put his welder and torch bottle set-up on. Bear in mind he didn’t have the welder you have. He was able to lift the welder skid off and on with an overhead hoist. When he had a job he loaded it on. When he was through he took it off. I will say the welder you have may be a little much, weight-wise, for your F-150.

Make sure to brush that rust out of the inside hollow bead and internal undercut. Also I always try to put my two seams of the pipe in the top staggered a little bit. Really do not want to take a strap in the pipe seam area.

What of thickness of pipe. Is good for a pipe welding test to practice on and be a good idea if I can just go to the junkyard to get the pipe
