Great Video guys. I'm a rookie and have loved dal soup for a long time and I am perfecting it quite well. It takes time to experiment with different spices to make it work. Have you heard of Hing ? Amazing ! Taste like onion and garlic. Heat the oil in the pan and add the Hing and cumin seeds for a short moment and then add your onions and continue.

Thank you so much, Steve! We left them in (except the cinnamon stick and bay leaf), which is traditional. We weren’t sure how we’d feel about that, but actually they all soften during the cooking process and are edible. It was a little weird chomping down on a whole clove or cardamom pod, but it was really okay, and added an interesting texture. The dish is SOOOO good!!

That’s not qorma , that’s blasphemy. I stopped watching your video seeing the restaurant chef cook. Qorma is altogether a different dish and it is never eaten with plain rice, only with naan biryani or pulao. Indian Cuisine is not one cuisine but 100 of different cuisines cooked in India. Qorma belongs to Mughlai cuisine.
@HowToFeedaLoon
@HowToFeedaLoon Ай бұрын
We are sorry that our video offended you so deeply. Through our research, we did see that the chef prepared the dish in less "traditional" ways, at least from what we learned during our research. If you had watched us prepare the dish, you would have seen what we learned, not just from the restaurant chef. We talked to many, many Indian cooks and they all told us that Korma, as well as Shahi Korma, is most commonly served with naan, or roti, but, basmati is very popular, too. We love it with basmati, and that was the way it had always been served to us. As we say clearly, upfront, we are NOT experts in cooking Indian food. We love the cuisine so much, and we also love to cook, as do many of our viewers. We encourage folks to try something new. Learn as much as you can, but, also know that at the end of the day, it's about the effort, and not having to worry about anyone condescending to you about what you did wrong. It should be joyful. Which is what we find every time we learn something new. We were proud of our korma, and the owner, and native of India, was very impressed and enjoyed it a lot. We are also fully aware that Northern Korma originated during the Mughal Empire in the Indian Subcontinent. We also learned that Korma is prepared in Southern, India, but there are typically some differences, including the addition of coconut milk. These were details we didn't feel the need to convey. It's good to know, but not critical for the purpose of this video. And as students of recipe development, we understand that there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of regional styles of cooking in India, just as in Mexico, Africa, and other cultures and locales. Like India, they are vast, and varied. But, to say food originating from the great land of India is not Indian cuisine is, in our opinion is silly and a bit pretentious. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, even though you only watched a portion of the video.
