Around Town: Crape Myrtle Trail of McKinney, Texas

I have a suggestion for education guides needed for crape myrtles. I have not found any guides on how to grow crape myrtles as 1thick trunk. I have not found guides on creating an allele with crape myrtles. 2 ways would be good, like at Dallas Aarboetum OR to give a shady driveway or walk. I have not found guides on training a crape myrtles to make a shade tree. it is such a useful tree but these guides would allow people to get the results they are trying to get. Right now people are getting random results and do not know how to tell anyone else how to get them as I have listed above. Thank you if you can direct me to how to do these things with crape myrtles.

I think you 'd do it just like any other tree; pick the straightest of the stems, and cut the rest off. You will likely always have to cut the stems down that come up from the bottom, because that's how the tree naturally grows. But every time you cut the rest off, you make your single trunk stronger, because the tree has nowhere else to put its energy. You may need to stake it for a few years.

@@HappyCats17 Thank you, I'll try that. I can hardly wait to visit your park! Thank you for posting pictures online for us too far away to visit every week as we'd like. Media has provided great opportunities for a much bigger audience brought about by covid isolated people looking for enrichment to learn from great distances from experts. It's also causing a lot of us to add you and others to our bucket list to visit ASAP. :-) Maybe Dave Forehand with Dallas Arboretum might have some ideas. I noticed P.Allan Smith has worked with them before. Maybe he has some ideas to share.

It is a beautiful park but Mckinney managed to hide it instead of putting it where it could be seen and found easily. Wish there were more parks to walk in the area around Stacy and Ridge. They seem to want to fill this whole area in retail and multi family places with no open spaces or parks, except the Crepe Myrtle park that is hidden.
