It's very common for some of the presets on the ARP Pro Soloist (and Pro/DGX) to be dead or just not sound like they should. It's also common for people to blame these problems on the Pro Soloist's ROMs, when they are rarely, if ever, what really has failed. In this video we track down and repair 4 dead/incorrect voices including the ubiquitous Fuzz Guitar I so the customer can get his Tony Banks back on.

Every Synth Chaser video demonstrates the most fundamental foundation of vintage synth repair - Analysis is everything. Before you go in to the machine locate what works and what doesn't, make a hypothesis and then go in and test that hypothesis. Revise if necessary but go in with a map and a plan every time.

Just ordered your opamp tester. I use a “IC” Chinese tester. It displays the opamp on the screen and even passes it as ok, but after replacing the opamp the repair unit functions. Can’t wait to receive your tester.

If they sent the other two ARP Pro Soloist synths to you, you could probably figure out ways to get them working also :-)

My Pro Soloist is missing some voices too (after some time) but only when it's orientation is horizontal: if it's standing vertical (like yours in the video), all voices are working again. Any idea where to look for or how to trouble shoot such situation? Thanks.

That could be a mechanical issue. Maybe try to reseat the connectors.

@Stephen Anthony LOL well, in fact it has MIDI so that could be the solution haha!

Look for plug in connectors and resolder all of them. Also unplug and reseat them to make better contact.

Thanks for the tips! I believe my service guy did all of the above already, that's why I suspect something else.
