Thanks again Blake. Used your method for releasing the hub, nice trick. However on a 2017 I had to remove my parking brake guts to get the APR stud on. For those doing this don't forget to remove the 10mm bolt for the wheel sensor before moving the hub. Also, I would keep the hub snug on the carrier when using the BFH to remove the old studs. Less chance of damaging the internals of the bearing when banging on it. 14mm hub bolts are 48-49 foot pounds. Caliper bolts are the same spec. Do it! Cheers, All!

Good tutorial. My hub was stuck to the knuckle. I managed to get it with a slide hammer. I bolted one of the attachments to three of the (old) studs, and it only took a couple of pulls for it to give up. After that, it was as depicted in the video. If yours is stuck, and you don't own a slide hammer, you can probably rent one from the auto parts places. Though, a slide hammer is a worthy investment. I don't use mine (OTC 4579) that often, but when I do, it's the only thing that would have worked.

I think it would have been beneficial to have gotten a nut or lug nut that the stuff could have went all the way through so when you were tightening it if something happened to threads when you were pulling them through the messed up part would have been closest to the wheel and still would have been able to torque the wheel properly cause the threads on the outside would have still been good

Wish it was this easy on my 07 hawkeye but the wheel speed sensor is tucked right behind the studs on the back. So you need to take off the axle nut and replace the bearings. I sold my set because the rears were too hard to switch out.

I have a 2012 WRX sedan. I removed the four bolts in the back of the hub but when I try to work it free to give me the extra space to put the studs in, the assembly doesn't move at all. Am I missing something? Or should I just keep working it until it comes loose? Our would it be better to take the nut that holds the hub together?
@BlakesGarage
@BlakesGarage 7 жыл бұрын
+Skylar Robinson you need to take all 4 bolts out of the backside of the area when the axel is held on. You have to pull to break it loose. Then you should be able to spin it. It's not as easy as I made it look.

Skylar Robinson I just did this last night on my 13 WRX and if you have rust/ corrosion back there from driving in winters the rear hubs are a royal pain in the ass to remove. I had to take the entire parking brake assembly completly apart, let it soak in pb blaster, remove the axle nut and use an air Chizzle to get mine off. It absolutely sucks and I'm a mechanic by trade. But if you get lucky and there's not much corrosion back there, you can loosen the 4 bolts, then with them partially still threaded beat on the bolts with a hammer with and extension. If this doesn't work its going to be a project.

Hey man, love these videos... I got my front extended studs in without any issue... the rear hubs were literally solidified onto the axle (east coast, fml ). Tried everything, beating on it with a wood block and a sledge, prying on a wood block (to avoid the ebrake ring). The only thing I didn't try was removing the axle nut. I've watched your video a bunch of times to see, I shouldn't have to remove that to get the hub assembly loose, correct? Again, love the videos. Keep it up!
