Why such the religious uproar? A Mighty Fortress is my favorite hymn, and played by the best organist ever. Let's show some respect to Ms. Bish. This is by far the best arrangement I have ever heard! I love the trumpets, and the vast contrast she gives this majestic hymn. The point here is good organ music :)

Bishfan, On behalf of the American Guild of Organists, Thanks again for this Post. You never cease to amaze me. YoungOrganist, Too many Trompettes? Absolutely Not. I too am a young organist, 29 to be exact, a son to a Former National Councillor and National President and am a Current Regional Councillor. This hymn, which I can remember attending; in LIVE concert on Official AGO Business, is an arrangement that she wrote. This is her way of playing this hymn. Awesome!!

This week while rafting down the Colorado River, in the Grand Canyon, as I looked up to the majestic towering geological peaks above, I thought of this powerful hymn. Thanks for bringing a beautiful version to the tube. I LOVE Dr James Kennedy and his preaching. His strong stance for the Bible (Word of God), for Creator God, creation and traditional family is missed. I loved his brilliance as he taught about our Judeo Christian heritage. This version of the hymn has a sense of royalty and pomp. Jesus is our King of Kings. Creator Trinity is the Ruler over the universe. Thank you God for creating the beauty of our earth. Thank you God for our ultimate coming victory over all evil. We read in the book of Revelation, we win, as the Bride of Christ, as believers in our Lord and Savior. Yes, God is our solid Rock and Hope.

I am a sixty-nine year old organist. I have listened and viewed Ms. Bish's performances for years and appreciate her love which eminates from every fibre of her being. A dear friend of mine once told me that it takes a genius to create a monument......any dog can come and piss upon it. Bravo Diane Bish! You are a monument and inspiration to organists who truly appreciate your contribution to people everywhere! Bless you dear sister!

EXACTLY ! People have been saved by the Catholic Church decades before the New Testament was even written. In fact, it was a Church council, the Council of Carthage, presided over by St. Augustine and approved by Pope Boniface, that defined what the Bible is! The Catholic Church OWNS the Bible. Bravo, friend.

The antiphonal Trompette en Chamade is definitely the loudest on the entire organ. It is meant to be heard over all 117 ranks of organ. I think it is called Trompette de Fete. I had a friend I was in college with that used to be senior organist there after Diane Bish left. The Trompette en Chamade ranks up front are more for use as part of the reed chorus but certainly do make a statement.

sngtenor From my experience from listening to her at Coral Ridge in person, the antiphonal trumpets could not possibly play against the full organ. They are far closer to an echo. The loud, fiery trumpets used against full organ is the en chemade rank forming a star at the center of the instrument that sit on much higher wind pressure. The antiphonal tank is hardly, if ever, used. I saw her in person this month. They were used for one measure in the finale to echo the other trumpets.

God has given His priests the power to transform bread and wine into the very substance and being of Jesus Christ; He has given them the power to absolve even the greatest sins; He has given us the right and the command to consume His own flesh and blood. These mysteries surpass all human understanding, and even the angels tremble before them. Yet, indeed, God has the power and the generosity to bestow these things upon us.

If it was a righteous and flawed religion then Martin Luther would not have found that the bible was only in Latin and not available in the language of the people. ML was the first to translate the bible into German, he was first to recognize you don't need to do good deeds to get into heaven, it is through God's Grace alone.

I believe you are referring to the draw knobs on either side of the manuals, or keyboards. To answer, each draw knob activates a rank, or set of pipes of a particular voice of the organ. They control each function starting on the left with the pedal voices then move from left to right controlling the bottom manual and to the left controlling the top manual.

Yes, I certainly understand. It is difficult to believe that you should confess even your most private or shameful faults to a mere man in order to obtain forgiveness. God forgives any sinner who is sorry because he loves God. We call this sorrow Perfect Contrition. But "Confession" remits sin even if the penitent is merely afraid of hell. (That is called imperfect contrition or attrition). So the priest literally has the power to "loose" such sinners of their sins. It is a special gift of God.

Confession is REQUIRED for Catholics--I need to make that clear. When they commit any grievous sin, they are required to confess it as soon as reasonably possible. But I suppose you could say it is a reassurance--especially for when you are about to receive the Body and Blood of Christ, which MUST be done worthily.

in the Christian faith we have the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God was created in Human form, his son Jesus Christ, so if there is a statue of Christ in our churches then it represents the human form of God so Johann was correct, we do not bow to the image, that statue, but we know it represents the human form of God, Jesus Christ, our Savior. That is why we say in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit before we say our prayers or end our prayers. Amen. Have a nice day.

The Bible does not literally say that God gave his disciples power to forgive sins, as far as I remember. But again, would that be so hard to believe if even the ancient Jews had to confess their sins to the priest? God through His Church requires "Confession" because it actually makes forgiveness more certain for sinners, among other reasons. The priest is Christ's representative and minister under the New Law. The men within the God's Church are often sinners, true, but all men are. :)
