In Jungian terms (the psychologist Carl Jung), England saw Ireland as its Shadow; Ireland’s spontaneity, exuberance, and joy of life as the opposite of its own stiff-lipped miserable up-tightness. The Scots settlers in the North are the epitome of miserableness, the polar opposite of the Irish spirit, as were the settlers in the U.S. May they be healed. Much love to Ireland.
