He seems to speak the same language as Beethoven. I love him for this.

Arrau is a transcendent poet of the keyboard, he is the incarnation of nobility and dignity in interpreting this sonata. His tone is always focused, never flimsy, and all the connections are explored and put together with his virtuoso intellect. His ideas are very strong, and have obviously been debated at length, due to his conviction in relating them - this is a performance of great spirituality.

Love Arrau's majesterial opening bars, in fact his whole interpretation gets to the heart of this iconic work.

Arrau's Beethoven is still my favourite. He never forgets beauty of tone, even in the most intense passages.

This is truly a transcendent performance, so much more communicative and spontaneously flowing than some of Arrau's studio recordings of the Opus 111 I've heard. Sublime in every way and with such wonderful tonal colouring! Thanks for sharing this musical treasure. Is it available on CD by any chance?

yusufu9 My favorite Arrau recording of the 111 is the 1957 EMI (Columbia) recording. In my opinion the two Philips recordings from 1965 and 1985 have to much rubato.

Arrau as always the greatest master interpreter of Beethoven piano sonatas. Thanks for posting this marvelous opus 111, a supreme accomplishment of piano writing. A question for persons of superior wisdom: What brand of grand piano is Arrau playing in this telecast? It does not seem to be a Bechstein nor a Steinway. Anybody knows? Best wishes.

Have any of you heard Youra Guller's recording? Originally for Erato in 1970's. Rather 0verreverberant acoustic, but a monumental and great performance. licenced by Nimbus, who made her last recording in 1975 (NI 5030). A pianist of this great generation.

Tengo as 32 por Don Claudio...!!
