Judging from this man's horrific behavior there is obviously a very good reason he wasn't allowed to have custody of his grandson! What a horrible monster!!!

An update from his foster daughter who is now grown, said he went there to confront a an Amish couple that used to live in the house. The couple had adopted the suspects grandson and he wanted his grandson back. She said she believes it to be a case of mistaken identity. One of the local news channels interviewed her on the phone. Absolutely horrific and tragic loss of life. My prayers are with the victim’s family and community.

This must be incredibly difficult for the entire Amish community... I know they respectfully enjoy their privacy and no attention on them.... how do the Amish handle police investigations, murder charges, and do they ask for leniency on the suspect? They are known for their incredible forgiveness, so it had me curious.
@AmishAmerica9 ай бұрын
It can depend on the community how readily they turn to the police (at least for less serious crimes). For things like this, pretty much all Amish from conservative to progressive are going to go right to the authorities. But you are on to something in that they tend to exhibit forgiveness (although it's difficult for them) and not seek vengeance for lack of a better word. For another example, this one a car accident which took two Amish girls' lives, see the response of this father & family: amishamerica.com/amish-father-menno-miller-reflects-on-loss-two-daughters-crash/
@ellebakes44539 ай бұрын
@AmishAmerica All of my prayers are with the Byler family. I am however, very interested to see how they will not only come together, but also react to this court case. @theotherohlourdespadua11319 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, it really depends on the denomination. Most would seek forgiveness but there are stories out there of Amish and Mennonite communities who force the victims to give forgiveness to their assailants just to maintain the collective peace and keep the police off their backs. I remember this case from South America about how a Mennonite community tried to hide a gangrape crime on this one family's daughters by some members of said community and how they lobbied to have them be freed from prison...

I live in PA. What a tragedy this story is. I am wondering if others found it bizarre that one of the charges is "murder of unborn child", yet a woman who aborts an unborn child in PA has violated no law, due to the State not viewing the unborn child as a human!!
@kimfleury9 ай бұрын
It's because it's reality that a growing zygote, embryo, and fetus is an unborn child. That's undeniable. The law was passed by a pro-life conservative legislative body at a time when PA had swung to the Right. I never looked Left or Right until recent times, but always pro-life in all aspects. I'm not in PA, but most voters in my State and in PA used to think like that. It's only hidden because of the urban vote now.

A foster daughter of the arrested in interview with a news reporter said it may well have been a case of mistaken identity. The arrested man wanted his grandson back. An Amish family who lived in the Byler home before they moved in had fostered the grandson. There was mention of cuts and a gunshot wound to the head received by the Amish woman. The Amish woman was supposedly killed b/c the arrested thought she had fostered the grandson. Again, in this era where opinion seems to overrun fact, I saw this interview and just wanted to share its content.

I know the Amish are usually keen on forgiveness, etc. but some people prefer a different type of justice. Hopefully, this savage gets the most serious penalty available. Seeing that a woman was murdered is bad enough but then to find out that she was 6 months pregnant, makes it so much worse. It's terrible that there were people essentially "victim blaming", for no real reason other than the fact that the victims were Amish. Some people think that everything is a "coverup", especially when it involves the Amish. This is a very sad tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims loved ones and the entire Amish community.
