Arrival in Harvest Caye & Exploring the Port Shops - NCL Breakaway Vlog

We have arrived in Harvest Caye, Belize which is one of NCL’s private islands. We were up early to watch the ship come in to port to this beautiful little slice of paradise. We took our time getting off of the ship and wandered through the beautiful plant life and scenery... and checking out all of the shops. Now it’s time to head out onto the beach...

Was laughing when you were saying look at the mountains! It’s all about perspective and for you its wow. For me it’s where? For us it’s kinda like a foothill which is just big hills. It’s fun to watch and see others points of view especially when it’s a new experience for them. Wait till you get to Alaska and see a real mountains up close! Love your videos.

We pulled into Harvest Caye last month... it was November and the weather was great, it was not even 80... it was great seeing everything even though it was their kinda manufactured village. It was awesome seeing things & areas I was just at!!!! We were excited to see the Passport place but as we left we tried to get a stamp & there was 1 lady who couldn’t do it!! Our next stop on NCL in Mexico & we couldn’t find someone to stamp our books either!! Wellllllll, it was great seeing the kids & taking their pics knowing they would get to see SOME of the things I took pics of things I can’t wait for the little ones to see them!!!!! Soooo glad y’all had fun too!!!!

I loved Harvest Caye! We’ve been there twice. The second time we were there, we were with our daughter and her family, and we had a pool cabana with waiter service from the Landshark. My daughter bought her family several shirts from the bamboo store. We preferred the pool over the beach,only because it was packed the day we were there, and very windy, so they wouldn’t let us open the umbrellas. My hubby, a fair redhead before he lost his hair (lol) burns easily, and needs shade, so we stuck to the pool area. Can’t wait to see your next installment of vlog.❤️

We played volleyball on the beach. Enjoyed our time. Cruising in January I was a little concerned about the weather but it was fantastic ! We never were too hot. The temperatures we perfect usually in the mid 80’s. We still had to use sunblock. The ocean water was warm as well. Awesome time to cruise. Thanks for the video.

This is so nice. When we went to Belize there was only a 30 minute tender to the island. We opted to stay on the ship because tenders make us seasick!

I know people always wonder about the Harley Davidson shops, these are for Harley owners to collect poker chips and souvenirs with the logo specially made for the different locations. DJ and I visit them everywhere we go state side or international :)

Spice H20 is my GO TO spot on the ship during the day. I won't even consider The Bliss or that other one with the laser tag deal in the back because of this reason. Its just my personal preference. I love being up there and sunning a bit then cooling off in the grotto with an almost never crowded bar.

3rd! :) Alisa, you sound veeery sleeeepy at the beginning of the video. Be careful because you can get burned just as badly (or even worse) even on an overcast day. Sunscreen always, always, always! If you think those mountains are nice, wait until you do your Alaska cruise and come up from Seattle to Victoria. Some of the greatest scenery in the world. Thanks for another great episode guys! Souvenir stamps are a no-no. Travelers buy them to commemorate their travels or visits to special sites. In fact, some of these stamps are highly prized by travelers. The problem is that these stamps invalidate your passport and immigration officers can stop you from boarding the plane.

We'll be on the Breakaway at the end of March. Same Itin. These 'manufactured' parts of the island give a very unrealistic impression of what the country is really like. You may as well go to Disney. To me, I'd prefer to get into town (the real town) and see the island as it is. Thanks for taking the trouble to make the videos. Nice job.

There is a ferry to take you to the mainland if you would rather spend time there and there were excursions you could book on the mainland too. But this was a nice place just to relax for the day.

I am wondering what the process is for taking the Ferry to the mainland. I heard you need to purchase tickets for the Ferry on the NCL ship and how that works. Do you have any tips or information on that?

According to the SCF, up to 80 percent of the sun's UV rays can pass through clouds. This is the reason people often end up with serious sunburns on overcast days if they've spent time outside with no sun protection.

Have a good question for y’all. Have been on 5 cruises and ready to go on another but since my last cruise I am now in an electric wheel chair. Do they allow electric wheelchairs and also have rooms with a wide enough door to accommodate a wheelchair and 110 electricity to charge the chais battery? Thanks enjoying following y’all. Hey Bob! Yes, every ship has rooms that are fully wheelchair accessible. But there are not very many so the more in advance you can book the better you are in getting one. As far as charging the battery, these plug into a standard socket, right? If so then yes. Very nice to connect with someone locally!!

It depends. When we are with the kids we tend to do more organized excursions. But these cruises we did on our own we decided to freestyle. We are currently planning the excursions for our April cruise 😉

We had wifi as part of the free at sea. It was good, not really fast but not slow either. It was the 250 minute plan and was enough for us for the week to just check online a little each day.

That is the one downer about this private island in that nothing is included. But it was the deal NCL had to make with Belize to make this port happen.

Im not sure if someone else already asked this question. If you go to one of these private islands that is owned by the cruise line, do you have to bring cash or credit card when you get off the ship? Is everything then charged to your cruise account? I understand that if you go to the mainland you need to bring a credit card.

It depends on the private port. Some are a complete extension of the ship and some are a stand alone. Harvest Caye is a private port but part of Belize so the Belize government has some say so in this one.

I was on the first ship (Dawn) for the grand opening in 2016. I was not impressed. It is man made with the worst sand. The thing that bothered me was most was to have to pay for food and drinks even if you had the drink package. That was the deal with the government in order to create jobs. At the time 2 burgers and beer and soda was about 50.00 bucks not in including tip. The food wasn’t good. There were a lot of upset people. No real excursions at the time. It was still a work in progress and hopefully it’s better.

It sounds like it has definitely improved since you visited. We really enjoyed the island and there were a lot of excursions you could do and there was a ferry to the mainland also. I agree I think food and drink should have been included! We ate at Landshark and it was very good but pricey just like Margaritaville.

Because Belize is such a poverty stricken nation, Harvest Caye, while owned by NCL, is operated by Belize residents who are responsible for the businesses on the island. Unlike NCL's private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Caye, where the ultimate beverage package is recognized and gets you free alcoholic beverages while on the beaches there!
