Waymo is restricted to San Francisco and a few other places due to it being driverless. So both the state and city have to allow them to operate and there has to be good wireless service for it to work. Some time in the future it may be possible to travel intercity by self driving cars.

I love that you did the self-driving car! That was cool! I had to pause the video to comment that I think this year should be the year of new experiences! In my opinion, the wax museums, Riley museums, amusement parks, etc, have all been done to death. I would love to see you do more things that you have never done, or those that haven’t been featured so many times on your channel. I would eagerly await each day to see that! I also had the thought that next time you do drive across the country, that you could stop at some of those small Amtrak stations and check out the museums as a companion to these train trips. Have a great year, Jacob!

My fondest memory is walking into department stores some of which put their nut candy and popcorn sections near the front door so you smelled fresh popcorn when you walked in. Thanks! As a native German speaker, i can attest that Laughing Sal's German laughter was very authentic. German Ladies' Bowling Clubs on their weekend trips sound like that. Especially after some sparkling wine, or rather some more sparkling Prosecco. But your trip with Waymo was equally hysterical. I would have freaked out all the same. And you arguing with Waymo over the driving was just hilarious!

On my first Amtrak trip, a car sideswiped our train. We were stopped for about an hour. (No one was hurt.) Because of that delay, the train was really booking it. So it was bumpy and moving back and forth. Not that easy to use the bathroom during this time. Once they caught up, we were driving pretty smooth the rest of the way.

Happy New Year. No take-aways from previous treks, but this one has to rank up there as one of the best adventures yet? SF suggestion: ZOO. Bus, or Uber. RE: Empire Builder; simply majestic n awesome experience and you’re going during snow season! It’s been several years but to this day I remember the magical sights of pulling into piney snow-topped towns, like Sandpoint, ID., or Whitefish, MT. Interesting side note is that I was traveling the westbound leg from Mpls->Sacramento but we were delayed due to a snow incident so Amtrak housed passengers in a Portland hotel overnight to accommodate Coastal rail connection. Cheers.

This whole series on the Amtrak is really appreciated. I am so happy the experience was a possitive one - that's a lot of time on a train. I'm a HUGE train fan but only used AMtrak to comute a few times from Sacramento to Emeryville (Trader Vics is in Emeryville) The Self driving car was crazy - glad you did it so I don't. If you at the warf or Market area then you can take the Cable car right to Fairmont hotel and take in Tonga Room. Also for a bit of classic art, the Grace Cathedral has castings of Ghiberti's bronze Babtisry doors accross the street. Good value for money.

There's a trip you could drive someday called the The Gold Rush Trail: California Highway 49. It goes through many lovely small towns in northern eastern California that gold miners established during 1849 after gold was discovered in California. Colfax is one of those towns. The highway starts close to Yosemite and goes north. You could spend several days driving and looking around those towns.
