I was on the very first public ride of the EXT on opening day. I was a few days shy of turning 15. We rode in the second to last "stall" in the last car. The airtime going down the first drop was pretty alarming. But not as alarming as the airtime going through each of the corkscrew loops. My feet came up off the floor at least 6 inches during the inversions. Without the restraints, you would have definitely fallen out. It was rough as hell, especially on the entrance and exit to the corkscrews. Like knocked your entire body back and forth. But it didn't stop me from riding it all the time. There was no straddle seat, so it actually didn't hurt your, um, "midsection". My next stand-up was King Cobra at Kings Island and it was a much smoother and enjoyable experience, with no hang-time in the loop. Also, Worlds of Fun was not a Cedar Fair park until 1995.

My dad grew up riding EXT. It is one of only 3 rides he remembers when growing up and he liked EXT. He seems to have preferred Orient Express and Fire in the Hole, but he liked all of them.

Morbid as it sounds, the River King Mine Train operators at SFSL to this day claim Stella’s ghost haunts the ride, and will even mess with certain things if you ask her, such as flickering the lights.

@@ConceptualCoasters It’s believed there are a few different spirits inhabiting the park. I’m not a huge believer of ghosts myself, but some of the things I’ve seen and heard about during my time at the park make me wonder sometimes.

I can see how the accident happened. The Arrow stand up trains didn't have the bike seat that you straddle on B&M, Intamin, or Togo stand ups. The purpose of this seat is to support your body in the event you go unconscious and when it's not there it's every easy for the positive Gs to force your body down and under the restraints. Very bad design and it's no wonder Arrow never built another stand up after that accident

the trains were made by togo

@@ConceptualCoasters Interesting so why did they omit the bike seat for EXT but not on their models? Togo stand ups have the bike seat I remember it when I rode the POS called Shockwave at Kings Dominion

ok i might be wrong here but i’m pretty sure they were made by togo - anyway idk, do you actually know that they didn’t have it or are you just assuming?

I love the video! But you made a minor mistake that a lot of people make: The Revolution at SFMM was the first modern looping coaster, and it opened exactly one week before Corkscrew did.

The Screamroller at WOF was my first coaster as a kid. It started my addiction. I remember when the park turned it into the EXT standup version. Yeah, a little rough since the center of gravity is different and the track wasn't designed for it. Unlike modern standups, the EXT did not have a the "seat" for you to "sit" on. You literally were just standing up. The only safety restraints were the shoulder harness and a flip up pad that barely kept your knees held to the back of the car. I do not recall a seatbelt, but looking at pictures I guess it did have one. The standup version was only at WOF for a couple seasons until the Six Flags accident happened in 1984 just before my birthday, dangit!! It was out of commission for my birthday :( It went back to being a sit down and was torn down a few years later to make way for Timberwolf. The wooden station for the Screamroller/EXT is the same one used for Timberwolf.

I heard that the stand up trains were actually much more comfortable than the B&M ones. Probably still not the overall ride tho for the reasons you explained

I rode Rail Blazer when I was 10 and I honestly don't remember it being a rough ride. The trains were way heavier so when they hit the lift hills you got more of a jerk than the usual mine train but not a lot of head banging. When they added the stand up the took the tunnel out at the bottom of the last drop, which sucked. I will say that between Arrow and Togo, Arrow had the more comfortable trains. King Cobra beat me up !

EXT was an Excellent coaster when it debuted back in 83. I know I was there for it's opening there used to be a little trash can robot that came out saying hello I am EXT America's first stand-up roller coaster. In the early '80s a robot of any kind speaking of any kind was a huge novel idea and it just added to the whole EXT experience. The Orient Express was my roller coaster. I used to work it. I had to write it countless times every morning to test out each train. The drop of 120 ft and going under that first tree look like a head chopper it was such a beautiful and unique experience words can't describe it. And it's time it was one of the best of the arrows. As time went on it got extremely rough riding and became a real headbanger. I still believe to this day that if they were to be an m of four seater train out of the old station since the name Orient Express is already patented and trademarked for another kitty coaster by chance industries or it's either wisdom or chance I don't remember which. I think it could be rebuilt using the name samurai but dropping off the Kamikaze loop what you guys call a reverse batwing or whatever you guys have your terms for in the day it was called a Kamikaze loop because you went in the same direction going out as you were coming in right next to the track it was parallel to one another. And as the coaster did the tornado Helix at the very end of the ride where it kept derailing there toward the end. You were over waterfalls and the pond area which was all done in Oriental fashion to go with the Orient Express.
