Arrowhead Hunting Mississippi: Chlorite Tablet found..!

I found out that this Artifact may possibly be a Material called Chlorite...I dunno.,sure looks like Quartz to me.,..just never seen it in such a green color.
It is translucent with a good light source..People have questioned whether this is an Artifact or not ha ha...I've been doing this 30 years and know a couple things lol....I'll do more research on the Material

I saw a raccoon effigy holding corn cobs in it paws found by a young fella in a sand bank on a creek in Alabama. It was bout 4 inches tall and it looked like the same material. A geologist told him the source was an ancient quarry in Georgia. Thanks for your channel fella👍👍👍

When I was a kid, I visited my grandparents. My grandpa took me out arrow head hunting in corn fields. It was a a lot of fun and I still have most of the things that I found. It is not much but I still enjoy the memories when I look at them.

I knew of another such tablet of different but equally beautiful material. The owner researched and said they have been found on the chest of burials and were worn, perhaps 'inlaid' into a woven material. This is forty years ago so who knows.

When you said Benton culture it immediately made me thing of the couple large Benton points from Mississippi one which was made of greenstone, the other I'm not sure, but both are completely ground and polished tip to tail. At first I though maybe you had some type of undrilled plate for a large pendent or gorget, but after reviewing pictures of these points in an old Overstreet I was wondering if these type of plates may have been the starts of these finely ground and polished points. They shape of one of the points is like huge oval, so to complete the point you would only have to round the tip and tail and lightly notch the base. Also seems to me those plates as rare as they must be would be highly tradeable and easily used as a currency. I would love to see other examples and know if they we traded around. Either way awesome find, thanks for sharing.

By the way those points I was referring to, one was found in Lee County, Mississippi, which is the big oval looking Benton form. And another different more classic looking Benton form was found in Missouri somewhere, but I'm guessing you may know this too. Hope this may help somehow.

@@Theditchwalker No image or carving on your find?.I looked up adena tablets.It seems they have only 18 known found.Most were found in mounds and over 2 to 3 thousand years old.I wouldnt take it to experts because they will likely steal it.There was one guy(Low) who took the stone he found to the Ohio Historical Society for study and they claimed he donated it to them.5 years in court and the court agreed that he donated it even thou they had nothing in writing to prove their claim.

That does not look like chlorite just because its green. It has been in water for ages and could be stained. I refer you to this image on Etsy. kraft dinner I hunt creeks and smaller tributaries....Artifacts get washed out of the banks and deposited into gravel bars..The winter and spring months are the best time to walk and look as there is good water flow to wash everything clean...when the creeks silt up .,surface hunting is not good so I resort to digging in the gravel bars to keep the points coming....Hope that helps...Thanks for you comment and the best of luck to you

It is for sure a worked piece of material to be flat and squared off as it is ... assuming it is a work in progress ... this might end up as one or more pieces for jewelry? Otherwise, if this is the final product, there are far too many questions without any answers forthcoming. It is an unfinished ornamental artifact made of chlorite....the chlorite was probably traded into Mississippi from indiana or Illinois....I showed it to an archeologist friend of mine and he was not very knowledgeable on that material.

Who’s more expert than theditchwalker ? He’s probably handled and identified more artifacts than any of the current archeologists or paleontologist you’ve ever heard of. Thing is...he recognized an artifact as such that some would have dismissed as a “piece of tile”. I’m too envious.
