Brian, At first, I really enjoy watching you on RC airplanes, Sailplanes and jets. You’re in great position, but not your helicopters except your OMP M4 and that was very great job you did and I am sorry if I offended you on gps or self leveling helicopters. I asked my fellow member who know so much on Spektrum receiver for safe and self leveling. I asked him to remove all of that and asked him to change panic self leveling and that’s really fits me as a glove. As for self leveling and safe, I cannot control my helicopter as before and it is terrible way to get it responsive very quickly enough. I’m being honest with you. I preferred panic self leveling no safe. Keep practicing on your simulator and you’ll thank me a lot by giving me a gift OMP M4 kit with servos and ESC.

I wasn't so much offended, as trying to communicate in a way that was clear. I appreciate what you're saying, and what you said (on that comment a few days ago)...it's just that my personal journey through RC is not going to be FULLY controlled by you, or anyone else...this is up to me. I hope this position makes sense, without sounding incendiary. I certainly don't think you meant for your comments to be received that way either. It's just that I love this hobby, and have learned to actually appreciate the process of learning, even though I would have wanted to just start out being "REALLY GOOD" at first when I got back into RC planes 9ish years ago...now I kinda enjoy the challenge ;) Also, it keeps me grounded (no pun intended), and helps me to remember just how HARD it can be for new pilots to learn. Anyway, I think our last interaction might have been an example of how NOT to communicate with one another...since it was a bit too easy to misunderstand one another...but either way, we really appreciate you, and glad you're here with us. This whole channel is about getting people into the hobby, and BACK into the hobby, and how to find success without going totally broke to try and do it. When we started the channel, we were just filming my journey, and we still do that to a certain extent, but part of the fun for our "regulars" is to continue to see that as we've somewhat changed gears into helping more people FIGURE OUT HOW to do what I did 9ish years ago. I suspect that this change has left a few regulars a bit bored, and I couldn't blame them, but we still love flying, and love flying new stuff too ;) Thanks for being here!

How did you add a rudder?
@paulballard4243
@paulballard4243 10 ай бұрын
Added a servo in the battery bay, added a pushrod and sleeve, added a control horn to the rudder, plugged in the servo to the rudder port and waalaa rudder was born

Brian, I hate to disagree with you....but. I got my avanti last week after i had seen this video and expected to need to add a rudder. My reality was totally different from yours. I flew this with a 4s 1500 and with 100 percent throws with 25 percent expo, and it was amazing. Easiest jet i have ever flown. Very fast roll rate, super stable and the widest flight envelope i have ever seen. I have 50 planes including many edfs from 50mm to 80mm, and this is the first that i can confidently fly on circuits round my field at 6 foot of the ground. It turns at very slow speeds without a hint of a stall...and shoots around doing very tight turns at full throttle. To be honest it needs a rudder like i need an extra butt hole. This litle plane blew me away. Love your channel, andy in uk.

I've done rudders on pretty much every 64mm jet I own. This one being smaller I would honestly try using one of those micro linear servos to keep the weight down and cut a rudder into this one.

Ive had rotten luck with linear servos, a grain of sand in the gears an They strip. Agreed, gotta mod flaps in aswell,, LoL!
@BrianPhillipsRC

That would be easy, but the thickness will allow an Emax 13 gram MG, so I'd just want to keep it cheap ;)
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 10 ай бұрын
jono - it's not so bad if you keep them BELOW 97-98% throws...it's when they get into the end of stroke, and "over-run" the mechanism, that we have this issue...and dirty resistive pot elements, under the sweepers...the fingers can get BENT...causing a crazy chattttttttttter ;) - also fixable, but what a PIA, no doubt

@@BrianPhillipsRCdid you manage to mod it? I'd like to see that haha. I was about to pull the trigger for the 50mm Viper, but found out about the EDF access hatch on this Avanti. I thought the only difference between them was that hatch, so I decided on getting the Avanti... until I watched this video. I was planning on eventually adding a rudder to the Viper anyway, but I couldnt find detailed videos on that process for either plane. So what would be better? A modded 50mm Viper or a modded 50mm Avanti?

For 20 more dollars, you get a 64mm, 4s plane with flaps and rudder! from FMS!! Why are rudderless planes still in production? Or even the HABU 50mm has a rudder. Hard no to anything without a rudder. Great flying Brian!!

ALSO note to buyers: everything is on backorder!! the important parts!
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 10 ай бұрын
What planes are you quoting... there ARE some that are gonna be only a little bit more, but not $20 - sorry. This one is only going for like $160 (at the moment), and to get up to the next step, there's quite a laundry list of other features missing...retracts, flaps, led's, 6S capability - BUT for about DOUBLE the price, and a bit more for the Rx too, provided you have 6S batteries already, you can be in the 70mm and have a GREAT experience! For $30 more, you can get the Futura 64, but that's NOTHING like the 80mm... I just think this plane BEST compares to it's exact big sister, the 70mm, and both are good...just ~$10+15 more and half a days effort, you can HAVE rudder, then this plane is a good value...I just think it's ridiculous, like you said, WHY NO RUDDER OUT OF THE BOX!??!! The MFG's need to get this resolved. Bank and yank is only okay on certain air frames.
@BrianTurner-ub2tu
@BrianTurner-ub2tu 10 ай бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC I was referencing the 64mm Futura, Some reason i thought it was $20 more with all the extra features anyone would want besides retracts. (I picked up the Futura for $169 after code and CS rebate for damaged wing(like yours)) 100% the MFG's need to resolve the no rudder issue. Its the same with HH latest 50mm release. I will never buy a plane without a rudder again, its just so important. The day of Bank and Yank should of died back long ago. New people coming into the hobby like me will buy probably only one plane that is rudderless and learn their lesson quickly. No rudder is a HUGE loss in FUN! Thanks for the Demo and always great Content! You are my Go too on initial set-up, then I adjust settings as needed. How much of a pain would it be too maintain your land without a tractor mower? Pays to be a Farmer with all the tools needed! Do you happen to have a video on how to set up buddy box: everything needed and radio set-up Note: I have the 70mm HH Viper on pre-order and soldered a cable to make two 3s into a 6s(thank you for the idea)

Hi brian. I live in uk and watched this video just AFTER i had ordered this plane from ali express. Just a quick question. I have the arrows 50mm viper which is rated 3s , but i fly on 4s with no issue, so ii am giong to try the same with this little avant. My question is this, the viper has no rudder, but flies very well as a bank and yank. I know you had a good experience with the viper, so how much different is this plane, which you seem to find harder ro fly. Bearing in mind they are both 50mm hand launch from arrows, have they produced a worse flying plane than previously. Andy in uk.

you said has a 30amps esc, then did you do a amps draw with the meter on 4s? Did you check the temp of the motor on 4S?
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 10 ай бұрын
No, never have, and don't care to waste the time - catching this thing on fire would be WAY cooler ;) ...but to be honest, I don't have an current meter that would be a good fit inside this plane...the one I have is bulky, and I haven't used it, even a static test for years. These Arrows planes generally do fine on 4S, but if you want to fly her on 3S, this plane is weak and regrettably lame...I'd just say, "pass" if I were to keep her on 3S. Adding Rudder to a 3S MIGHT help, but it's still just not enough for a "fast" jet. She flies, no doubt, but I wouldn't encourage anyone to get this if they plan to fly it on 3S. So yeah, if you do test it, please do share.

@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 10 ай бұрын
It's bigger. I did speak to my concern about the rudder mod. Maybe for a "Second Thoughts" - since this plane screams - GIVE ME A RUDDER ;) We even linked to a couple rudder options, which we could have, but usually don't have to do on these 50mm Arrows offerings. I like the plane, and I think most would, but why is it such a huge ask at this price point??? I don't get it. Would like to see it incorporated in ALL these 50's - unless they're the rudders that just ROLL the plane, which can, and does happen on some models. Also, sometimes with TWIN rudders, it can be pretty complex, and cause a lot more engineering and cost, so I kinda get that on twin tail planes, but this is most definitely not twin tailed ;)
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 10 ай бұрын
Okay, just yelled out about your comment to Megan, and I said - heck, I wanted to see the rudder mod - LOL ;) Maybe I'll just have to do it and publish another video. I bet this plane would be other worldly with that $10 mod (and for the record, $10, might be a bit too high cost, since we linked to one that was maybe $8ish out the door from hz com)
