Heartbreaking to watch Knotty trying to get some love and positive attention from his momma. He had it tuff. But he had loving aunties who adored him and still do... Thank God.

It’s been so long since I first started watching your videos and I came across some older ones I hadn’t seen so started watching them, and I had to laugh watching Dopey as a baby because I’d forgotten just how uncoordinated he was.🤣😂 He reminds me of the Weeble dolls. How utterly adorable he was!🥰

I think Dopey won the lottery when it came to a Mother. I don't think I've seen a Mother as patient and sweet, firm when she has to be but still gives that kind of love and security as Reddy. Maybe I'm wrong or there are many Reddy's out there but I have a lot of respect for that sweet girl. There are so many humans with all the benefits of food and warmth who still can't be as patient and loving to their kids.

Poor Knotty.. he playfully tries to get mom to notice him but it's like she doesn't see him at all. He's a little dream.. but mom.. she's just a big nightmare! She sidestepped to avoid him and sits on his tiny body. It's heartbreaking. If Knotty were human I'd say he'd grow up to be a drug addict an alcoholic.. suicidal or a career criminal. Since he's not human mom will probably push him out in front of traffic one day. It's remarkable how the aunts give him more love and care than mom and they even follow them down the road. He'd probably be stronger and walk better if mom were there during the day to nourish him with milk from time to time. His little heart just urns for moms love but he's turned away every time. If she doesn't want a baby she needs to stop having sex for heaven sakes. 😕😒😳

Another wonderful video series. I feel I must tell you why I enjoy your work so very much. I have Fibromyalgia. When I'm in a bad flare up, like today, I get a moment to forget about the aches and pain and focus on adorable baby monkeys and Stumpy. I love how you narrate just enough for us to understand the circumstances and never invasive. Some folks go overboard with music and such.I have always been fascinated with primates. I enjoy watching your channel the most. I still believe that you should be working for National Geographic, Disney, Animal Planet ect. There are awards that KZbin gives out for exceptional work. I'm going to check into this for you and see what we need to do to get your work noticed. I know this is your hobby, but sometimes hobbies can become a job and you can get paid for doing something you love. My thought is Your beautiful work of art fits that category perfectly. Even if it gives you some extra change to buy more memory for your camera, we all still benefit . Again, thank you allowing us to see your exceptional work and for taking care of these lovely animals.😋🐵🐒

I had a bout last year and while healing from neck and back fusions I started researching service capuchins. I found the same therapeutic effect watching these videos, I cannot thank arroz enough and agree and mentioned in another post the same about deserving an award. Im bet arroz probably started doing this as a hobby not for accolades but it seems so many are helped and/ or enjoy them. I am just so amazed and intrigued that these Mac's they are so different free then when they are in captivity, it's like night and day, the mothers are nurturing and maternal to their babies and the ones in captivity are just so different. This has really opened my eyes. I know that the gorillas are somewhat different in the zoo's captivity then in their own habitat free as well, we are able to follow the families and they will walk right by us and we in fact have never had a problem with any of the silver- backs, or the mothers, they are so gentle and loving and the ones that became familiar with us would accept us more when we would sit down and eat a piece of foliage (leaves) and in captivity they are so ornery but so fun, I have some stories that are so cute but of course I'm not going to elaborate. Again, I love your videos

No it's not so much just captivity, although it plays a factor, as the type of troop and species of monkey.. look at how badly behaved lousy parents the Ankgor monkeys are, for an example....

As I am watching this video, I made an observation. Human breast and nipples are perfectly placed so we can cradle our babies close and we can both just look at each other, talk, smile (isn't it so precious the very first time they smile at you when they are suckling- it chokes me up to think about it).ANYHOW... The way their nipples hang so long and misshapen, and not very attractive, makes me believe that they TOO were created to hold their babies in their arms in the same way we do. They only have 1 baby at a time like we do. I wonder if they just got lazy? The way some bite, pluck hair, throw them to the ground- yes, some humans also abuse thier children, but I'm wondering if something has happened throught the centuries to have changed the maternal instincts for the worse?

I know this is silly but I wonder if bread even keeps in their cheek pouches. The thought just grosses me out. I'm watching him eat that and just gag at the cheek pouch bread. Moist bread dripping with spit! Eeewww. Sorry after all the seriousness of this series I had to say something silly to lighten the mood. Knotty's situation bothers me, but glad to see the other babies are fairing well. Batty is well, he must have been feeling depressed in the last ones. As always my favorite baby is doing excellent and his mama pretty as ever. You're right, there is a beauty in their love for each other.

It's not uncommon to see abusive macaque mothers, although 95% of the time it's in captivity when they're kept in horrible conditions. Most of the time, the abusive mothers were abused themselves as babies. Knotty is fortunate to have aunts who watch out for him. Many times there's no one to help them, and the babies die. Still, baby monkeys need their moms not only for nourishment, but also for healthy psychological development. Holding onto their mothers and being held gives them a sense of comfort and psychological wellness. Knotty isn't getting that. It will impact him in the long run if he survives.

I love watching the monkeys and their personalities, each one is so different from the rest ,Their all unique and very much like people. They even have their own political views, I noticed the leader gets every thing first then the strongest females and the other monkeys get to eat. The leader in the Troop finds the best water supplies and foods for his own troop. He is very protective over the Troop. He demands respect and if he doesn't get it from the younger males, He will shew them away. I remembered you told me that once a while back, when I said I didn't like the big fat ugly male, I would shew him away and feed the mother's and babies. I remembered you said that they need him, and at the forest Park people feed the monkeys so much any way so no body will miss a meal. I then studied the monkeys behavior and you were so right. I want to thank you for sharing your information it really helps a lot. thanks again Gloria.

+Arroz Marisco Oh my goodness! I definitely caught the Aunt prodding Knotty to go to his mother before you even rolled it back and made the comment. I was beginning to get happy for him when I saw him bouncing over to her with all his little baby excitement. But then when I realized that mum was not just not interested, but actually trying to DITCH him, my heart was breaking for him. The true sadness is that poor baby is so accustomed to her treatment of him, that he seems to take it in stride!! His mum reminds me of a young teenage girl who is "boy-crazy" and through her promiscuity ends up pregnant and then everyone else cares for the baby because she is not ready to be a mother. The non-human primate world mimicking the human? Or vice versa? All I can say is thank God for the two Aunties!!

You can calm down. The OP has read drama into a situation in which there is none, I'm afraid. I've seen this soooo often in gorillas and chimpanzees that I immediately recognised it here: The mums can appear to be incredibly horrible, harsh and even heartless whilst weaning their infants, but that's what's happening here. I've seen gorillas actually push their babies' heads off the breast and shove them with great force into their armpits to teach them to wean. They have run away from their babies, knocked their heads out of the way, laid them down in straw and then let them cry when they refused to pick them up, and walked away from them while they were nursing, and all in their ungraceful way of telling them it was time to nurse a little less. I've even seen them take food out of the kid's mouth. It gets excruciating to watch, but that's what's happening, and the only thing happening. Then why do the others not do the same? Because weaning times and durations are different for every single mammal. I've seen gorillas begin to wean babies as early as 1 week old, while others continue to let them wean well past six, when the average age to be fully weaned is five. It depends on the individual primate. And the bit where she doesn't want him to ride, and seems to treat him harshly? Think of it as pushing your kid out of the nest. Again, it's a _normal_ behaviour and nothing mean or dramatic. Gorillas do the same, exact thing and every husbandry manual I've seen and studied say it's completely normal. I've even seen some chimpanzee mums completely lose their infants in the wild and hide behind trees, whilst they listen to the baby cry, howl, scream, whine, bitch, and carry on. She's not being heartless. It's her indelicate way of teaching baby that sometimes she won't be there and he needs to learn to get along without her. She will stay hidden until he finally stops pitying himself and decides to go looking for her. Then when he finds her, she welcomes him with open arms as he runs to her. No, folks, what's bee happening throughout all these videos with Knotty and his mum is completely normal behaviour and thankfully, nothing to get excited over. 😊 HTH. Cheers.

So relaxing. Great video once again. If you're an infant monkey, is there any safer place in the whole world than 8:19 ? That stretch through 8:50 something is pretty amazing. Question: is the gray hair shedding and the orange growing in? Vise versa? Or us gray only on older monkeys?

I think with these guys you get a wide wide range of colors in their hair...I think more so than you see in most types of macaques ( i mean so much variation in one group or troops that are located so closely together also). With these the gray is in the younger ones as well as the older..but I think you can often tell the older monkeys here by looking at their faces and how much they are "weathered" ( in general that is)
@jcastanza
@jcastanza 7 жыл бұрын
Gina Powell interesting. Thanks! Ya I'm curious about the grey since we, humans, go grey as we age, AVS tiger mammals do in some parts (dogs snouts). But if that were true I think you'd see very very grey or grey and white. Then again, maybe not - maybe natural selection may. see to it that monkeys that gray don't survive long.

But the user name ceviche mix has been taken so I use my next favourite dish for it :) I'm from the UK originally as Bumble Bee mentioned.

Hi, I am new to your channel and I love it!! I have a question for anyone that might know...how did Stumpy lose his/her arm? I'm sorry, I can't remember if it's a he or she. Anyway thank you in advance. Oh and little Knotty is so very handsome! I took a screenshot at that time you paused & noted how handsome he is. I'll use it for my wallpaper, and no other reason. Thnx!!

I don't know but they'd consume everything when they are really hungry so my guess is they already had a fair bit to eat beforehand and now could afford to be choosy. For me I often prefer the crust though !

Me as a child ... i know that pain . Hasn’t ever ended over the last40 years and it’s something that hurts daily never having the love of either of my parents. Sad to see it in any living Thing... that monkey clearly tried to get her attention and imitated happy play attempts and tried to bond ... uhh. ... sad. But while I know first hand , the pain of abuse , suffering , abandonment And neglect , I also know that it takes a hurting person or being to cause that kind of hurt in another ... and as we don’t know her history , what she went through as a child or even upon getting pregnant , as she could’ve even been forced to mate against her will .. this has been noted in a few Examples among macaques , where the mothers refused their babies , associating them with the trauma , as keep in mind , the female is supposed to have the choice among mates or to mate at all ... and it could very well be something else but she’s obv. not bonded with knotty and that stems from her being too inexperienced or her ranking perhaps had been so low and she’d never been shown what parenting requires or love requires .. but on the chance that she’d had a troubled pregnancy that was perhaps non consensual ? Although I don’t think that is what actually occurred... I’m merely throwing it out there as a very small odd percentage option that COULD be possible to indicate her behavior .. as studies have shown among those who were rather forced into mating against their will , that they rejected their babies or even attempted to mutilate or kill them or abandon them fully outright as soon as they were born ... for whatever reason , she’s hurting too , despite how cruel it is toward the child ... perhaps she felt put off bc others took to rearing him and having a say in things that in her inexperience, she lacked the ability to connect to simply being of help to the baby and even , her as well. She could feel threatened by a higher ranking member that has in her mind taken over knotty , she also may not be able To provide nutrients and couldve distanced herself early on as a means of separating her bond and emotions from that of the likely failing health snd well being that would’ve often taken place if others didn’t step up and have a hand in caring for the baby ... we can’t fully know what creates these painful things but can know flat out that whatever did came from a place of pain as well. ... if a mother isn’t shown the balance and love and structure in her own upbringing, she will not often be able to provide any better for her own baby. This is what the terminology of breaking the cycle is all about ...its very difficult to break cycles of abuse and hurt and suffering ... but it takes one being involved being given the love or what they have lacked in order to recognize how to give it to the next .. otherwise patterns and imbalance continue on ..

It happens in humans as well sometimes...whichever nipple the infant tends to favor the most (and they usually do favor one over the other for some reason)tends to elongate more...whereas the less used one will stay very small. There have been some studies as to why they tend to prefer one side or the other but I do not recall any well defined conclusions that sounded likely

@PrimateProductions

NO I am not so sure she means that ..the kind of nibbling that we have been seeing in this series (and correct me if I am wrong Anna Lemsma) is not nibbling that is in reprimand or that is done in such a way that is even uncomfortable or unpleasant to the infant....it has been a very gentle nibble and infant rarely even responds to it and definitely does not react in the way that they do when they are disciplined. Trust me, when mom is disciplining them you know it cause they almost always REACT and react in a way that everyone knows that they just got scolded!! The nibbling that we have seen here is actually very much the opposite...it is done very gently and seems to be just a little bit of affectionate touching...much like one might rub a childs skin or head or hair...In my experience Anna that is more like what they are doing....grooming with the mouth comes so naturally to them and grooming is such a positive, social, and even affectionate behavior and the nibbling seems to originate from that type of behavior! Macaque moms will very often mock bite (their most common form of discipline especially for infants around this age) and will even actually bite (though usually never enough to "leave a mark" unless they are being abusive or it is accidental) an infant to discipline...even more common is the "look" that macaque mothers will give them..it is hard to explain but if you see it you will know it...often when a macaque youngster is attempting to suckle mom will pull away hard from the infant so that the nipple is removed (or she tries to remove it) from their mouth and she will lean back, make certain that she makes eye contact with the baby/juvenile (you will see her lean down, or back and stare at him), and give them a very stern look which can be accompanied by an open mouth stare or vocal that the baby will recognize as mom not happy!! Of course they also slap, pinch, push, pull, drag and whatever else is necessary to let that young one know that she is not pleased with whatever behavior it is!! I have always found (and love the research I and others have done) behaviors between mom and infant/juvenile primates (not just negative interactions but all interactions) absolutely fascinating....in some ways it is so very similar to humans..and in some ways it has always just baffled my mind!

Baby Rhesus macaques (and some types of long tailed macaques) infants to me always look very frail, tiny and skinny when they are very young...it doesnt seem that you ever see a "plump"one!! so I agree wholeheartedly! (of course they are not frail, these guys all appear very healthy and they appear this way even when they are extremely healthy...it is just the way they are built) : )

A lot of these moms probably love their babies but they’re not necessarily mother material. Once they were able to get pregnant your life is pretty much over because they don’t have a choice when they get pregnant and that’s why a lot of these mothers are old and an able to care for their children and get really nasty

Poor knotty. WHY!? Is he (knotty) of a lower rank? What is with his mom, she is the worst mom! He is so hungry and she doesn't have much milk from the way he goes from nipple to nipple. She won't make anymore either if she doesn't let him nurse more often if it works the same as in us. How old is knotty? I ask because he backside looks like it does right after they give birth. Arroz Marisco Arroz have you ever thought about when a baby is first born to put its name and the name of the mother and the date the baby was born on the first video you make of them. That would make it so much easier for newcomers to find out who they are, along with how old the baby is. Just a thought .
