Just because he’s not quite at the level of prem winners does not mean he’s automatically a £20-30m player or less. With Trossard being given more minutes, and recruitment expected at 9, players like Martinelli and Jesus will be looking for wide minutes next season, sometimes from the bench. Where do you see Vieria getting the minutes that he will need to develop? Surely, it would make more sense to loan him to a club that can give him a full minutes? This would allow Arsenal to make a decision on his future at the end of this season with 2 years left on his contract. A win-win for both parties.

Re Eddie: You've nailed it with a team like Palace being a good fit for Eddie. A couple of seasons back, when Eddie had that run in the team at the end of the season, I looked at other PL sides and thought, "He wouldn't be the lead striker in any of these teams (Including the ones in the relegation zone), why do Arsenal think he's gonna be the striker to get us a Top 4 place?". He has improved, but only good enough for a lower half Premier League side.

HI Charles, I totally agree with you on Eddie, 30m is a decent price & we have evolved past him. What pains me however, is I think we've also evolved past ESR. I love Emile as much as you do & remember the impact he made in the Boxing Day game away to Chelsea. That performance was for me, the seminal moment in MA's process & the 1st time I saw what he was trying to do. Just wondering what you feel is a fair price for Emile? I'm thinking at least 40m. Extra time: In regard to Nwaneri, after seeing him at the Euro’s it’s hard not to see him as the Saka rotation option. Stylistically he’s closer to a Saka than a Viera/ESR. This could be his pathway into the side as well as freeing up funds for midfield/forward signings.

Extra Time: Interested to hear your thoughts on transfer strategy asthere seems to broadly be 2 school's of thought. 1) 2-3 First team ready superstars. 2) 4-6 quality younger players to raise the squad level. A summer of Isak/Osihmen, De Jong/Kimmich and Bremmer/Aruajo would of course be nice but personally, I lean toward the latter (Sesko, Williams, Fofana, Hato, Diomande as examples with maybe a De Jong type added into the mix). With the current squad age + greater rotation/subs through more trusted players reducing the minutes of the usual starters improvement in the first 11 seems reasonable and gives time and opportunity for the new players to settle. We can be more unpredictable and spread the burden in a post Euros season. We can also improve our chances of cup progress whilst remaining fresh as the season progresses - the added bonus being more possibilities to youth players such as Nwaneri, LewisSkelley etc. Requires selling well from the fringes and loanees re transfer spend but the wages should be roughly covered by outgoings. Ideally, we can reduce the number of transfers in future seasons even with increasing revenue streams as the better the team the higher the standard required. Always enjoy the sensible thoughts. This also got me thinking about what our other players should be valued at if teams are willing to pay 30 mil for Eddie. We should be looking for at least 35-45 for ESR, 40-50 for Rambo, and probably anywhere from 35-45 for Zinchenko. Not saying that Eddie isn't a quality player, but I just rate these other 3 players I listed higher than him. And then I still believe we could maybe get 15-20 million for Reiss. You talking about player valuations, did you see the top ten list at the moment? 2 Arsenal players are in this "Top Ten Most Expensive Players On The Planet".... No 6- Bukayo Saka €195 million. No 9- Martin Odegaard €136 million. Considering that Saka is an academy player and cost us £0 and Odegaard only cost us £35 million, we have done extremely well don't you think? I think Declan Rice was probably just outside this year's top ten but if he has another phenomenal season next time, he'll probably be in it.

Hi Charles and James, big fan of the show. I think it's vital that we sign a winger as backup for Saka, but I don't think we've been ignoring this like people seem to think online. We have tried to sign Raphinha, Neto, Kudus etc in the past windows, although it has been a while since we tried to sign an out and out RW. Do you think the club have realised that any player worth getting won't want to be backup to Saka (he will obviously play most games) so instead have decided to go for versatile players ie. Kudus (can play RW and midfield) so we add a quality player who will still get the game time they want. Off the top of my head the players linked since we attempted to sign Raphinha (I would view him as RW only) have been able to play various positions. Additionally, I get both sides of the Nketiah valuation argument, but I would agree with you more. We are excellent in terms of bringing in players, but not so much in terms of sales. When teams like City and Liverpool have been on top, they sell well, and I would argue that both would get £30 million for Eddie. I think we need to put the foot down in terms on player sales, as it will benefit us in the long run. Thanks for the content.

EXTRA TIME QUESTION. Re. Thomas Party, I'm disappointed there's been no mention of a pay as you play deal. If I where Edu I'd be trying for that as it could be a canny way to mannage resources; Thomas is only 30, sheer quality when fit and will be near impossible to replace with whats in the market just now. The 10-15 million people are talking about getting seems daft to take. If Thomas would take, say, 50-80k basic going upto his current 2-300k if playing it would let us bring in a cheaper development player or review options in a year rather than putting a dent in the budget now!?! £30 million for Eddie?! I'll drive him anywhere myself! When you break down the different factors (age, length on contract, homegrown, prem experience) it makes complete sense, Edu just doesn't have the credit in the bank when it comes to sales to make me think we'll actually get a fee like that. Eddie's always reminded me of Michael Owen in terms of his pace and just being an overall nuisance (I think about the goal he scored at Southampton during project restart), but as you say, the club has outgrown him which isn't a slight on Eddie just the reality. Think he could be in a situation like Dom Solange who just wasn't quite good enough to make it at Chelsea/Liverpool but very much found his level and established himself at a smaller club in Bournemouth.

As far as valuations go, people don't tend to take into account how many years left on a player's contract etc when clubs quote X amount for a player. I'd say £30m is about right for Nketiah. I'd have hoped for closer to £40m but £30m is probably about right. As far as the home grown quota goes I thought the rule of having a min of 8 home grown only applied if you registered a squad of 25? and thus if we registered a squad of less than that that home grown rule would no longer apply. I could be wrong though.

I believe the reason us as fans are very sentimental with our players in regards to selling is because we arent used to our current success (albeit without trophies yet) and not being able to offer younger players as many minutes as when saka and smith rowe were introduced, what are your thoughts, i personally think smith rowe still has much to offer but the likes of nketiah and nelson should be moved on. So your Telling me Smith-Rowe, Jesus, Vieira, Zinchenko can't play where odegaard does. We can switch to a 442 or a 4231, there are a plethora of tactics arteta could employ to give odegaard a rest.

Arteta has a ready made replacement for Odegaard in ESR. Not at the same level but not that far way based on his form a couple of years ago. Just play him regularly in the less demanding games (say 25% of games) and rest Odegaard and you save a load of money and help the home grown numbers. I just can't understand Arteta's reluctance to play him even when he's looked sharp and has played well when he has had a chance.

Yes, there are a lot of charges against Man City but there really Police and Court cases that don’t take this long. Yes, 30mil is what we should be asking for, as I believe that Eddie has reached his ceiling with us, and he really struggles with teams who play a low block. I would go for 2 strikers(if Eddie goes) Ben Sesko and Zirzee or Victor O and Zirzee. It's time to go big!!!.

Budget is one restriction, another is that we will be having at least 7 players across the front 3 (New striker; new winger, saka, martinelli, trossard, Havertz, Jesus) which seems more than necessary and could make players unhappy. Mikel has done a great job getting rid of players that don’t fit his system or players that negatively impact team unity and harmony. We’ve also improved the squad each year he has been in charge. So Sesko this Oshimen that….don’t matter. Mikel and Edu will make the starting 11 and squad stronger and hopefully our wait for a PL trophy will end after 21 years. Trust in Mikel. I do hope MIKEL signs a new contact sooner than later.

Cole Palmer sold for 42M having scored 2GA in 850 minutes the previous season. Eddie should be priced at 50 million (45 mininum accepted). He's going into his peak playing years with loads of experience, and in the right system he could bang in goals. Can we stop undervalueing our players.

@@spoilbrattprudaksinz1820 Personaly, no. But that's the financial reality of the EPL...even mediocre players go for big money. We bought Havertz for 65M and at that time he was rubbish to be fair. Aside from scoring in a Champions League final you can't tell me that Havertz was more impactful than Eddie. If Eddie got the minutes that Havertz was getting at Chelsea he'd definitely outscore him. So yea...we should start the bidding at 50.

@spoilbrattprudaksinz1820 Yes, I want another team to overpay. It's called business! These mid-table teams have money now. Let's not pretend that they are cash strapped like 10/15 years ago. If Chelsea are asking 25/30 million for Omari Hutcherson, why can't we ask for 45/50 M for Eddie? We need to stop basically giving away players. Then, watch them lift their new team to new heights (Martinez at Villa and Leno at Fulham) or worst-case seeing them being sold for a hefty profit a season later (mavropanos from Stuttgart to Westham for 25M ).

@@jourdanjackson5365 you can't just ask a huge price if there's no market for what you are selling that's called business...whenever something is not in high demand the prices come down...And Eddie is not in high demand at the moment that's just reality ..Omari will be in demand after the Season he's had unfortunately Eddie did not have a good season so teams will use that to bring his price down...So it's either Arsenal sell him for what the Market will dictate or they keep him again and I'm sure you don't want to keep him again

Charles, on cover for Odegaard…. As with Saka I think it’s hard because any player coming in knows Odegaard is cemented in first XI: he’s captain, still in first half of career and on a long term contract. I look at the current squad and to me the best player to fill in for Odegaard would probably be Havertz. Vieira I think the big question mark is ability to do the defensive work without the ball - not that he’s bad, but that Odergaard’s level is hard to match. But I think Havertz can do that bit of the role well. If Jesus gets himself fit this summer and/or we sign a striker, my guess is that Havertz will play as much or more in the twin 8 roles than up front next season. What do you think?
