​@@garygriffin3647 As a professional player said, when you are playing, you can't be injury free. ESR did groin surgery in September 2022. And he was in the league match day squad from February 2023 untill October 2023. He also came on in 2 pre season matches in the summer of 2023. And started 1 pre season match in the summer of 2023. Also he came in the community shield against City last summer. So he took part in 4 of the 6 pre summer matches last year. Where did you get the information that it's ESR first pre season injury free???

31:40 Onanas passing ability would concern me, who we sign needs to be better on the ball than Declan Rice. I think that was part of reason why we didn’t look as good when rice and havertz played together in midfield, the transition defense to attack was that little bit too slow

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the home grown rule… People need to understand, there is no such thing as a “minimum quota” of homegrown players. The rule is, you can register up to 25 players for your first team in total, with a maximum of 17 players who DO NOT qualify as homegrown. So there are 8 spots reserved for homegrown players, but there is no minimum requirement. For example, if you only have 6 homegrown players, then your squad can only be 23 players in size instead of 25. You can absolutely have less than 8 homegrown players in your squad if necessary. Considering Saka, Rice, Martinelli, Saliba, White, Raya, and Nwaneri all count for homegrown, it is not worth factoring into your squad deliberations.

@@garygriffin3647 but it’s obviously not common knowledge, considering the things people say. I constantly hear people saying things like “English quota” or “minimum of 8 homegrown players”. None of that is correct. And judging by what you wrote, I don’t think you understand it either. You wouldn’t be “leaving yourself short” necessarily. That’s not how that works. If we have homegrown players in the squad “just to make up the numbers”, but Mikel almost never uses them…then what’s the point? He doesn’t consistently use more than 15-16 players a season. So a squad of 22 or 23 is hardly “leaving yourself short”, is it? And no…Raya isn’t considered homegrown because he “played in English football for over 5 years”. That’s not how that works at all. He’s homegrown because he was registered to an EFL associated club for 3 years before he turned 21. He was developed by an English club, that’s why he’s homegrown. It has nothing to do “years played”. People…I beg you…read the rules!!!

And just a side note…you do realize that all kinds of animals use stables, right? They’re not just for horses. Not really important…just thought I’d mention it 😉

In a realistic world, you'd want 4 maybe 5 players, if we clear house a bit. The decision needs to be made early on if we want the project player upfront or in midfield, and i think I'd prefer to go with the rumours and have the project player upfront, just because we have more options there...Sesko (would be my project choice), Havertz, Jesus and Trossard is enough depth there. I'd bring in Fofana from Monaco for midfield early, he's experienced, powerful, dynamic, has great feet and super affordable (some reports suggesting as little as £20M)... If Bruno is quoted around £100M, i would leave him, and would pursue a Xavi Simons loan to buy/purchase, if PSG was open to it. With that pair (total probably around £100M), i would let go of Partey (if a decent deal came in) Id then bring in a defender. The idea of Hato is a good one, someone with pace and can cover on that left side naturally. He's young, but because of our depth, he won't have the burden of being the finished article (this could open up the departure of Kiwior, a player i like but who may want to leave) It's fine if the second GK is signed for the homegrown quota. We've been rumoured to be looking at a number of targets, i dont have a strong enough opinion yet. If a surprising bid came in for a Zinchenko (and / or Partey) and we had a little money, i would explore the market for a winger that could cover Saka but would offer us a very direct alternative to what we have. In an ideal world Out: Ramsdale Tierney Lokonga ESR Zinchenko Partey Nketieh In: 2nd GK Hato Fofana Simons Sesko (Direct winger😂)

Nketia will easily go for 40. Nelson c'mon he's barely played. ESR has injury runs and teams will be looking at that. The difference between our players and Chelsea is that chelseasend the players on loan and they perform; we barely do that and for those who perform they have like a year left so we can't control how much to charge. You take what you get. BUUUTTTT I think ESR is worth 35 at least, and 15-20 for Nelson

Hi C&J, personally........ I think you could get around £25 million for Eddie, £25 million for Emile, £25-ish for Ramsdale, £10-15 million for Reece Nelson, £5 million for Lokonga and about £4 for Tavares. I also think that Tierney is a special case, the only suitor for him would be Celtic but they aren't exactly flush with cash so, just to get him off the wage bill, I'd be prepared to take £5 million for him. You also have our academy lad Bierev who would bring some money as well. And lastly, Zinny......... if someone, a Bayern Munich for example, came in and offered about £30 million for him, I'd take it but anything less than that... I'd keep him as back up or play him in the left 8. If you add up the lower valuation for each player, it adds up to around £100 million. It's not a lot for about 8 players but its better to have this money to improve our bank balance.

Charles, I've got the same list for the summer ... Sesko, Olisie, Bruno, but for GK, anyone from the academy can step up. With our back four, i believe they will be confident enough. Perfect trio if you ask me... definitely sell Zin if a bid of 35+ came in I also think we sell Nelson, and treat cozier-dubbery like we will Nwaneri. Both should always be on the bench ... last 15-20 mims of games that we're comfortably leading and cup game starts

Hi Charles Does City’s move against the PL yesterday feel like a final throw of the dice for you? If they lose this then they’ll have no chance of surviving the 115 charges, because they’re essentially arguing that the very thing they’re being charged with is unfair. They have consistently claimed their books are clean, but if their books are clean then why do they need to challenge this? It just feels to me like this is their attempt to stop the PL before it gets too late. It feels so desperate. Hope the PL lawyers up for this one better than they did for Arteta’s trial. For the hometrown status, you only need 8 if you have a full 25 registered squad. If you have a registered squad of 23 for example, you only need 6. Dont think sesko would need to be registered as he just turned 21

Great show, do you not think that this seasons transfer window is significantly different to the last one? Last year we needed to improve the starting 11 but arguably we have an 11 if fit to mix it with anyone, apart from a CM, I think investing in young talent is a good move and would love olise, sesko, jo neves and cm for now fofana or Bruno. I dont quite understand why its considered to be "unrealistic" that we also sign a good winger - lets say: Sesko would be the equivalent to the Havertz transfer last summer (if you compare the fees), then we'll go for a midfielder who will probably not be as expensive as Rice (maybe somebody around the 80 mil fee range) ... so i guess we would definitely have 40 to 50 mil left to spend on a winger ... If we are able to generate more from outgoings as well, maybe we can invest even more - there will be cheap options on the market that will do a good job as second goalkeeper so we wont need to spend much in that area... we could also get a versatile player who can cover the Odegaard and Saka position - that would be ideal ....and our current squad looks perfectly fine in defense, I wouldn't waste much money on that area either

Hi Charles, As I have sadly resigned myself to expecting that both Patino and Biereth will leave this summer, what sort of fees do you think would be reasonable to expect from them both? Perhaps about £30m combined? I imagine it’s well known that there is quality with Patino but fully depends where he goes, ideally we could get around £10m for him. With Biereth it’s more interesting - his stock is considerably higher, similar to Balogun last season, so do you reckon we could see us getting £20m+ for him? Sam

Not buying a world class left 8 is admitting that you are not serious about challenging for the title or champions league this year. It should be our no.1 focus. Selling half a dozen players and spending no more than about £60m on a striker should leave you with the £100m+ potentially necessary for a top top L8

Hi Charles, thank you for the good work The conversation about Gallagher is the exact point that many of us make that it's people like James that demarket arsenal players. 20m is ridiculous for Eddie. There is no was Chelsea sell Gallagher for 20m, Omari Hutchinson being branded for 25m. Eddie is a much better EPL proven player. He averages a goal every other game, in a decent mid table club with regular game time, he scores at least 15 goals a season, I dare say he can reach 20 if he takes penalties. Remember last summer when everyone wanted Flo Balogun instead of Eddie? Look at how Flo's season has gone. Eddie scores goals whenever he gets a decent run of games. How much was Holjund bought for? How is there a sell-on clause for Omari-Hutchison? Was there some sort of compensation contract signed by both parties when he signed for Chelsea? He was not sold to them.

It's sort of a compensation really, as he was an academy product and we invested a lot of money in him so we added a sell on clause in his contract, it's a way to sort of recuperate some money back. It won't be a lot of money due but it's better than nothing. What's sad is the fact that he won't get anywhere at Chelsea, all they think of is money, they aren't actually set up and run as a football club, they're thinking of potential financial gain in players as they're pretty much in the shit about their finances and FFP and PSR.

As it isn't and it hasn't happened then you can asume there was an agreement between Chelsea and Arsenal for the sell on clause.

You're misundering the HG rule. You dont need 8 HG players in the squad, it's 17 max non-HG players and 8 spots for HG players. We're fine on HG players, U21 players can be registered outside of the 17 non-HG players. Raya White Saliba Rice Saka Martinelli Are all HG.

I think it's more to do with timing, euros starting soon and also depends on when clubs financial years start to keep in line with ffp and psr. My opinion, we sign sesko after Slovenia get knocked out of the euros tbh but I hope we do soon because more clubs will line up for him the longer it goes on

@chr1staki Irrelevant. That was a very specific situation because Atletico were refusing to negotiate (insisting in release clause/up front payment only). So we told them early on that if they didn't play ball we'd trigger it on deadline day (basically out of spite). It was a gambit , a tactic, a game of chicken. That transfer probably won't be relevant to any other transfer we do ever.

THERE IS NO HOMEGROWN QUOTA. There are slots reserved for home-grown players. That is VERY different. It's literally not worth considering. Just having an academy makes it literally completely irrelevant. It's only relevant of you specifically want a BIG (bloated) squad and we know they see the sweet spot is around 18. Saka is at the club. Martinelli is at the club. Ben white is at the club. We're fine.

Hello Charles and James, Ramsdale deserves better from Arsenal. He was key to our success in 2022-23. Although he had very little participation this past season, he was among the reason why we reached 2nd place in 2022-23. Had our defense been more solid, we could have won with Ramsdale, as much as we did with Raya this past aeason. By the way, what happens God forbids, if Raya get injured in the.beginning of the season, much like Timber's injury. Can we afford the absence of Ramsdale? I doubt it. To be the best, we need 2 top goalies. The organization can put this project together, improving Ramsdale in areas he needs improvement to make him as good if not better than Raya. I really like Raya. I believe in Ramsdale as an Arsenal for life.

I like Rambo as well. Raya is just better in areas that Rambo is weaker . We are more stable at the back with Raya. And he will be the Starter at Arsenal. Rambo will want to play , its not going to happen . For his career he has to leave , as much as we'd like him to stay as a backup. I wish Rambo the best .

Slight challenge to the Nelson bit, does he bring any additional value that Nwaneri doesn't? Nwaneri would count toward the quota, doesn't require many minutes, and he could get used to the first team in a longer amount of time more consistently than this season. Take the Foden route to the first team.

@@Cengert1979 My thinking is that Davies could overlap to allow Martinelli or Trossard to drift more centrally which is where they shine. Basically he could allow us to create a triangle on the left like we have on the right (White-Saka-Odegaard on the right Davies-Rice-Martinelli on the left). Since this could leave us a little empty at the back, Onana would give us the defensive cover that would be needed.

I disagree with one thing Charles if I was Sesko going to arsenal isn't as straightforward as you suggest. Arteta has been historically very reluctant to play younger players. Especially if you fall out of favour. Smith Rowe, Vieira, Nelson, Marquinos,Nwareri, Lokonga, Tavares. Especially with the fantastic form of Havertz absolutely no guarantee he would start or have any involvement if he out of favour.

Marquinhos was never intended to go into the first team. He was supposed to go on loan immediately. He was never up to the level. Smith Rowe and Vieira have had multiple injuries. Sambi and Tavares were given plenty of rope and hung themselves with it. Nwaneri is the youngest ever player. I'd like to have seen him get a few more minutes but also he's 17 so meh. Nelson MAYBE but he hasn't exactly torn it up when he has had chances. Looked OK but not to the level we've been playing at. He hasn't been great at bringing through academy players but the guy who had the youngest team in the league last year and second youngest this year has in no way been reluctant to play young players.

One of the main reasons we fell short last season is that despite our luck with injuries we still had players playing the entire season, Saka and Ødegaard running on fumes! These players will not perform as expected in the first half of next season.
