The Euros/Copa America massively effects the transfer market. We are on the verge of signing Calafiori who will join the tour. Maybe we should delay the start of the season as no comps next summer, but it will be a shorter pre season. You can’t have everything

Last season there was no summer tournament. Whoever we signed were generally players who went deep into either the Euros or Copa. So they wouldn’t be available for preseason. It’s vastly different to last year.

I totally agree with Robbie and for me it is not even about the signings. The Euros, Copa America and the Olympics have significantly disrupted club football for the coming season. Anybody who doesn't see that is either in denial or is just not paying attention. We were all very happy to see our beloved Arsenal push City all the way and narrowly lost the EPL. For us to have a campaign as good as the one we had last season, we need all our players to be fit, refreshed, ready and firing. We also need players like Rice and Saka to go through full tactical rehabilitation and have Arteta extract the pseudo coaching tactics that Southgate inflicted on them in the Euros. I like Julian but he is being casually dismissive of real concerns. These players are overworked and therefore are likely to suffer injuries as a result. They are not made of wood. Two seasons ago we fumbled towards the end and lost out on the EPL because Saliba and Tomiyasu got injured. How little we forget about the importance of having key players fit and fresh. Saliba played all our games last season and also played every single minute of the Euros. These are human beings, not robots. This isn't ideal at all.

I for one am not complaining about the affect the international tournaments are going to have on our pre-season preparations. For all the valid concerns that Robbie and Lee may have, football isn't like a mathematical or physics equation which are governed by adherence to laws and rules. As stated, we've had 2 years of just about perfect pre-season preparations and then come damn close to winning the league both times, therefore the god of irony demands the plausibility of a less than ideal pre-season and transfer activity this time around being the one to ultimately end in triumph, not forgetting that it's simply within the arsenal DNA to do things the hardest possible way.
