It was a day of art and agriculture converging, exploring creative science relationships. For the first time, in nearly 50 years the national conference of Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) was held in Chicago, Illinois. Over a dozen Jr. MANRRS members joined in a hands-on fun and educational field trip to the South Side Community Art Center (The only remaining WPA Art Centers in the USA). After touring the SSCAC's art exhibits, a discussion of arts, agriculture and the relationship to environmental creativity, participants arranged native plant donations from Christy Webber Farm and Garden to enhance the curb appeal of the SSCAC. It would also showcase more environmentally friendly options for sustainable design. Attracting native fana, reducing water consumption, increasing precipitation soil infiltration (reducing flooding), among other benefits.
