Ever heard of Dada? Its an art movement that got traction in the decade after WWI - the idea was that any society that could produce something as horrible as that war had no intrinsic value. So they made art that was...the best way I can describe it in a nutshell is "memes." Dadaist art really doesn't have any meaning or purpose. Its there as one big meaningless dump. They made films, poetry and, relevant to this discussion, paintings. Why am I bringing this up? Marcel Duchamp, one of the artists who worked in the movement, drew a goatee on a print of the Mona Lisa. That piece, apparently, is worth $750k (if the replies are to be believed, 0.1% of the original painting's worth). I'm not joking, Mona Lisa with a goatee is high art to a point that the original is worth a 2 bedroom house. Want me to turn this from an art lecture into something funny? That means the painting at 8:04 would actually be artistically justifiable if, at least in the world of the film, it wasn't the original.

Every time I watch this scene. Why do I freakin picture myself in Bean's situation??! It nearly kills me every time. lmao
@AJafterhourz2 жыл бұрын
Because this scene carries a very deep meaning. We have all made mistakes in life that we want to fix. At the same time, we are scared that if we don’t fix them, it will hinder on someone else who may be rooting for you or counting on you. We get scared that we could possibly underperform and not live up to our expectations. Bean has showed us that no matter what, you can always fix what you believe to be broken.

The scene where Bean puts paint thinner on the painting HORRIFIED me as a kid. Something about the way it starts bubbling and melting. It's like a scene from a horror movie.
