I love the whole process of his speech. From shaking profusely, he speaks the obvious situation about his false title and about the painting. Then the slowly reflects on his experience with his host family. That heartwarming truth is what made his speech great.

Because like the general said himself, he doesn't know nor care at all about art, he is a man of principles, he bought that painting cause it "belonged in/to America" and instead of a bunch of artsy fartsy art-logic/knowledge, he appreciates the emotional principle of the importance of family way more

Maybe it's not just me but everyone else who over the years will realise the "scientific analysis" of Dr. Bean on the painting is apt and spot-on true. It's not just a painting, it's a truckload of emotions that Whistler put on the canvas while portraying his mother, so the main point is no matter how they are, what they do .. they are and will always be your family, deal with it. And families are important.

Hello, I'm Dr. Bean. Apparently. And my job is to sit and look at paintings. So, what have I learned that I can say about this painting? Well, firstly, it's really quite big, which is excellent. because If it were really small, you know, microscopic, then hardly anyone would be able to see it. Which would be a tremendous shame. Secondly, and I'm getting quite near the end of this... analysis... of this painting, secondly, why was it worth this man here spending fifty million of your American dollars on this portrait? And the answer to that is, well this painting is with such a lot of money because... it's a picture of Whistler's mother. And as I've learned by staying with my best friend David Langley and his family, families are very important and Even though Mr. Whistler was prefectly aware that his mother was a hideous old bat who looked like she'd had a cactus lodged up her backside, he stuck with her, and even took the time to paint this amazing picture of her. It's not just a painting. It's a picture of a mad old cow who he thought the world of. And that's marvellous... Well that's what I think.

There was an unfilmed post-credits scene. A few years after the events of the film an earthquake strikes Los Angeles. At the Grierson Gallery everyone is thrown to the floor, the glass casing around Whistler's Mother shatters and breaks and the bottom section of the pictures' frame breaks off. Once the earthquake subsides, Elmer runs up to Whistler's Mother to assess the damage and he notices the now revealed words at the bottom of the picture: "THE GRIERSON GALLERY, HOME OF WHISTLER'S MOTHER." The scene ends with Elmer screaming in horror.

Funny enough, his job DID help to replace the painting with a poster. He would just be looking at each stroke, curve, medium, and mark while the snooty bums on high take it for granted, but this is Bean here. He caught on what makes a painting a painting in the most concrete way and to cap it off, he proved he was introspective on paintings despite just sitting there and looking at paintings. It also helped to destroy a 50 million US Dollar painting and damn near ruining the career of his new best friend, but C'est La Vi, as the French say.

I think everyone loved this speech because it was simple and heart warming for a change. Funny too😂 Even though using more vocabulary is definitely an advantage in certain ways it's always better to keep speeches short and simple depending on the context of course.
