Heads up: “non photo blue” is a special colour (I was surprised they included) but is called that because it doesn’t get print off if you copy it. Kinda like the way you’d use a hi lighter to write notes on a fax you don’t want to be sent. We always used them to mark the original copy so we knew to make more lol. But yeah, you can scan it and lose the colour. Maybe a bad thing in certain applications and great in others lol

I have the Conscious Creativity book and it has lots of creative prompts. It’s like learning to use all your senses and being an observant artist. Really great read!

I think non photo blue is called that because that color doesn’t show up in scanners and was traditionally used by graphic designers and illustrators. I wish the Pith books were sold in the US, they look great!

@@aprilbrown8081 Ooo thanks for this, thats so interesting I didn't know that!!!🤩❤. Have you looked on the Jacksons Art website, I think they ship to the US and they stock most of the pith sketchbooks❤🙌 Thanks for watching xx

Have you ever tried a hot-pressed 100% cotton, 140lb/300gsm watercolor paper? It’s got the beautiful absorbency of 100% cotton but is completely smooth. Fabriano makes a lovely 5x7 block that’s a little less expensive than some 100% cotton papers. Cotton lets the watercolor soak in more evenly allowing for even washes and only controlled blooms.

Oooo this is a great tip. I have used 300gsm watercolour paper before, but not 100% cotton. I will check it out as I do love my watercolor paints and really want to get the best out of them! Thanks for the tip 🥰❤🎨xx

@@wild.soul.sketchbooks, 100% cotton, 140lb/300gsm is the gold standard for watercolor paper, and it comes in cold pressed (the bumpy kind), hot pressed (smooth) and rough (super bumpy). The bumps in cold pressed and rough are preferred by most artists with the peaks and valleys of the bumps affording the pigment places to settle when the water moves it around, giving the painting texture. However, if that texture is not preferred, hot pressed provides a smooth, flat surface.

@jkellyfamily9 Thank you!❤ I much prefer the hot pressed as I usually combine my watercolour with black fineline pen drawings so I like the smooth paper but I definitely need to experiment some more. I always buy the paper sheets, I've really struggled to find a sketchbook that I really like with this paper xx

I got a Fabriano sketchbook a few months ago but haven't used it yet- so good to see how it works with the watercolor! I hope to crack mine open soon! I bought one Inktense pencil to try recently- but they can't be re-wet sadly- so as a base, once it's down it's down! I do love the Supra color watercolor pencils which I started to collect about a year ago, so I think I just may stick with those for now- curious to see how you will use the Derwent Inktense pencils 😊 Oh and I agree about the Royal Talens sketchbooks- not crazy about the paper color, it works well with gouache tho, but not watercolor...the price is the attraction with those...

@@JoJoTarz I'm a huge fan of the Supracolor pencils too, I'm looking forward to playing around with these inktense pencils over the next few weeks, they seem so pigmented which really suprised me! But good to know they don't reactivate, thanks and enjoy your Fabriano sketchbook, I really love the paper so far!🤩❤🙌xx

Ow! You’re the first person I’ve heard that agrees with me about the Talens sketchbooks! I think the paper is rubbish tbh and I don’t like it. I think everyone gets blinded by the pretty colour covers lol

Do you use molskine watercolor journal
@wild.soul.sketchbooksКүн бұрын
I used the moleskine art collection sketchbooks. I love the smooth paper, its 160gsm so can withstand most mediums. I have found recently though that if I'm going to be using more watercolour paints it is definitely worth having proper watercolour paper so I can get the best results. The art collection moleskines are great for mixed media though 🤩❤hope this helps!xx
