Maybe yeah! I read a quote once '' to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment''. I have found a useful by-product of creating art is that it gives you... a sort of freedom to be yourself, its like the ' artyness' is somehow a credible reason for any any eccentricity. ( which it is) So People expect it Archmage-soloman, don't let them down ok :D peace

over a week is a great length of time, good to know this thank you...not that I intend to leave a project for that length of time but it is very helpful to know how long the clay stays workable for... so I am presuming after that length of time it will no longer be workable...will it crack in that length of time as well as harden? love your Gnome, can you make it for outdoors if so how and what to use... what do you seal your finished projects with...and before or after painting?... ty :)

This is great... :) I'm designing gnomes myself at the moment, but i'm yet to actually touch the clay yet. It was a little daunting to just jump into it, but you've really given me a method I feel can use in confidence. I particularly loved how you used art materials for the armature.. Very fitting. You've given me a lot of ideas, my friend. Thank you :)

Hello there citychickgirl, nice to hear from you again :) Yes that's a good idea, if you do, use a gloss medium for this, the Gloss medium does two things, it seals and waterproofs the sculpture even more and as you you say it also adds a nice sheen. Happy creating. Mont Marte Joe

Hi Maggie, yeah life happens and we some times get so consumed by it we don't have time for the things that we do for enjoyment when we would like, and yes clay becomes a bit leatherery as the amount of water dissappears. Seal it with Mont Marte Silver Series Acrylic Paint, it will be nice and waterproof then. :) Mont Marte Joe

so if I can't complete my clay project I can leave it and it will be okay to carry on with it obviously covering it up ... but do you cover it with a damp cloth only, or damp cloth plus cling wrap...LOL!!!... just wondered what is the best way to cover uncompleted work till ready to proceed with it...not very good at explaining but hope you get what I mean LOL!!!... thank you :) magz :)

Hi maggie, it depends on how long in-between modelling sessions you intend to be. I like to cover it with a damp tea towel and then cling wrap. The clay will stay moist for over a week. Mont Marte Joe

That's the best gnome I've seen!!😊 Thanks, I learnt lots of sculpting tricks from you in this vid! I want to make a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus or Saint Francis or Our Lady for my garden. From reading the comments here, I gather that the air dry clay is weather proof if painted in about three coats of acrylic plus a medium gloss varnish.
@MontMarteArt
@MontMarteArt 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carrie, great to hear that you picked up some tips and tricks from the video! Yes that's correct - 3 coats of acrylic plus a medium gloss varnish will make it weatherproof. And just a handy hint for you - if you're creating a large sculpture, it may crack a little while drying, but you can fix this by filling the gaps with wet clay :) Once that's all dry it will be ready to paint!

@MontMarteArt
@MontMarteArt 7 жыл бұрын
Hi megviola, you really want it to thoroughly dry, depending on the temperature this will take about 72 hours. You can then repair any cracks ( if there are any) with thinned clay. Once it is dry you can then give it 3 coats of your sealer of choice. Keep the coats thin and obviously allow them to dry in-between coats. This way your gnome will last indefinitely. Im glad you are enjoying the project too. Air dry clay is a fantastic versatile medium aye! keep on creating Joe :)

What are some suggested sealers? I'm new to clay (well, as an adult, I used to play with it as a kid) and not sure what would work for outdoor use. Was going to put it in the yard under a small tree, would that be protected enough from sun/weather or should it be on the porch?

Hi there, thanks for reaching out! If acrylic paint is applied over the dry clay it will be weatherproof. We recommend applying three coats of paint, allowing each coat to fully dry before the next is applied. Hoping this helps! 😊
