The Patriot opened in 2002, shortly after 9/11. Alas, I just heard that it's closing down for good. There aren't a lot of cheap dive bars in Manhattan, and it was nice to have something affordable that you could get to from the 1 or the A with equal ease.

"Barbas" might be a reference/alternate name of the demon Barbatos from the Goetia, to continue the theme from earlier in the campaign. His description says: "He gives the understanding of the voices of the animals, says past and future, conciliates friends and rulers, and he can lead men to hidden treasures that have been hidden by the enchantment of magicians. His name seems to derive from Latin "barbatus", bearded, old man, philosopher." Additionally, he has been described as working under the command of Satanachia alongside Pruslas (Purson, seen earlier) and Aamon (Amon, not yet seen). I'm very curious to see where this is going! I agree with the players' opinions that this apartment is some sort of conduit to an alternate timeline or reality. Furthermore, I wonder if this reality that the agents are experiencing is some kind of pocket universe or time loop or something similarly disconnected from reality. We shall see!

Just discovered this series and it's great. Very hot take, and definitely likely to have GCN plead the 5th, but I wanna say I am really grateful, though I'm grateful for a particular reason. Like a lot of people, I got into TTRPGs and actual plays through Critical Role. With the way Critical Role has gone in campaign 3, I have really missed an actual play show with excellent performance, sincerity, genre literacy, levity beyond potty humour and d*ck jokes (though we get a very nice dose of em here, not a deal breaker), attentive players who do the actual work it takes to play the game (as opposed to merely showing up), and the absence of a pre-occupation with ship-generating PC contrivances, etc. I won't get anti social, but I hadn't been watching any actual plays for ages and I was really bummed because crit role had a place in my heart. Those are obviously just my opinions on it, but I don't think it's unreasonable to say that any actual play is likely to be compared to at least one of the big two. Hope this isn't a faux pas. So thanks GCN! Great work!! Finding myself watching under the covers late into night like any good actual play has had me do in the past! Can't wait to see what happens as the campaign goes on :)

Enjoying these a lot so far, but I've seen this crop up a couple times and I'm unsure if its something you're house ruling or just something missed in the newer DG rules. When things are quiet/under control, instead of rolling they should be getting clues based on their skill rating. A common house rule off of that would be to have a roll determine how much time they're spending to find that clue (but *getting* the clue isn't at risk, just time or other complications). Either way, the idea behind the rule is that you avoid situations like with the real estate office lady, where the player fails a roll but an important clue is there to be had so the keeper has to massage it to the player. . Often keeping this in mind helps spreading out the skills you're leveraging to get this knowledge, instead of just alertness/search. Accounting/bureaucracy for the ledger, SIGINT to find a pattern, criminology to look for hidden spaces in the apartment. Its happened this way a few times already to great effect, with the Military Science stuff for Cumstone! It can be tricky to re-adjust your mindset from other systems where you do much more rolling, but the payoff is worth it. . Also you are the kindest handler in terms of sanity that I've seen! If the players are coming up with crazy unnatural ideas for what is going on thats prime SAN check territory (even a 0/1 type), along with stuff like that excellent sleep paralysis scene. Heck the stress of watching the guy you barely know that you're relying on to have your back in all of this getting just smashed in the middle of the day could be a 0/1 helplessness SAN check.
