Beast Academy is a great preparation for AOPS. The thought process that AOPS promotes is definitely one on understanding the WHY rather than just completing the problems. Beast Academy does this as well. We have completed a couple of chapters thus far and the thought process is definitely what we are focusing on right now.

Thank you! We actually decided not to use this. AoPS starts at Pre-Algebra (approx 7th or 8th grade) and then continues throughout high school.

I’m an adult learner who has completed a lot of math in my life up to precalc, however years ago. Am I ready for the Art of problem solving pre algebra book? I took the pre test/assessment and got a 23/26 which is passing. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something by not taking the Beast Academy courses grade 1-5 first?

How is this book working out for you? Do you recommend it for all the kids in general or is it targetted for mostly gifted kids? At what grade level would you advise a kid to start on this book?

Your child definitely needs the mindset of "I'm going to figure this out." It isn't for someone who wants to be told how to do the problems and then follow along. We actually moved away from it. It is targeted for kids who are very "math-minded."

Looks great! How are you planning to teach using this book? Are you going to go through the lessons along side or use it as more of an independent student led type thing? Just curious because I’m looking for a curriculum where I can be more involved in the teaching because math is my favorite!

I'm going to go through it with her and add on Unlock Math videos as well as the AoPS hub materials when we need a little more instruction or a concept presented a different way. Math is definitely one of my favorites, so I couldn't totally step away :)
