Thank you. Another amazing advice giving video. ? You mentioned that you have your outsourced prints returned to you for signing. Does this mean that you do not sign the original or do you now have two separate signatures? ? You mentioned for outsourcing you would get ‘ High Quality’ pints. How do you determine what is a low grade print or a high grade print? Is this measured in pixels, dots per square inch? Please teach me the correct terminology and how to understand the difference and hopefully then be able to source the correct printer. Thanking you. 💐 Teresa.

Jill McGinn You are very welcome! I scan my images in on a Canon scanner I own, then edit them in Photoshop elements to prepare for prints. If you don’t have a scanner, many copy shops have high-quality scanners that would do a great job. Inexpensive scanners work quite well; I just recommend that you use 300 dpi or larger.

Ellen i love your style, and thank you for sharing your expertise!..congratulations on all your success...do you have any suggestions for sending very large original paintings such as 40"x60"...ive seen some artists send the canvas unstretched in a tube but i dont come across too many collectors interested in doing the extra work of putting a frame back into the canvas...is this acceptable?...it is expensive but possible to send prestretched large artworks but the disadvantage is that the artwork is more likely to suffer damage...large works cost at least 100.00 +insurance to ship..thank you again..youre awesome!
@EllenBrennemanStudio6 жыл бұрын
I wish I had sound advice for shipping large works. It has always been too much of an expense for me when combined with all the time it takes to create boxes (purchasing boxes and/or allowing a service like FedEx to handle them is WAY out of my price range). If it's a piece that really large you can always offer rolling it as an option for your customers but I agree with you in that I wouldn't think too many collectors want to go to the trouble of putting a frame back onto it. I have watched how to pack/ship canvas works by searching KZbin and Google, though I can't remember where so I can't offer a link 😕 I'm sorry I'm not being more helpful! Good luck!

The paper I use is the archival matte by Lexjet which you can get it from their website and I believe, Amazon sells it as well. Unfortunately, I don't have a video showing the specifics of printing my work but I can tell you that I use a scanner to capture the image and then edit it on my computer. Great video :) I wanted to start shipping as an artist but did not know all of this valuble information. I have 2 questions: 1-What do you think of shipping big "framed" pictures in large boxes or whatever? (Some clients will not prefer doing extra effort by going and buying a frame that suits the painting you sent and will prefer it to come framed). 2- What shipping companies do you recommend (if it is just paper prints or framed ones). Thank you so much for your video ❤ I will be very happy to subscribe and share it :)
@EllenBrennemanStudio6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment and your questions. So glad you're finding my videos helpful! I am planning a new and updated shipping video very soon which I hope you'll find useful. I hope to have it up within the next week or so ✨🤞🏼 As for your question on large framed prints/paintings I personally do not offer this service. The last large painting I shipped (sized 18x24) cost nearly $150 to ship via FedEx because anything under glass has to be handled accordingly. You could probably get by in shipping for less but you'd still have to insure your package and if you packed it yourself (and didn't properly pack for glass) you might not get reimbursed if it arrived damaged. Long story short, I think it's too much of a pain to do unless the customer is willing to pay for that cost. Hope this helps!

@EllenBrennemanStudio7 жыл бұрын
Freya thank you for your question! No, you certainly don’t have to have two printers. I started out with a printer that created a maximum size of prints that were 8 x 10 then outsourced larger prints to another printing company. Eventually it became more cost-effective for me to have an additional printer that allowed me the convenience of printing larger sized images to accommodate the demand. Everyone’s needs are different so whatever sizes you intend to offer would be your starting point when looking for a printer for you. As for the type of printer, that is also a personal decision, however I am partial to Canon and they offer many printers to accommodate artists. I personally use their pro 100 series printers and am very happy with them.

I need to know where to order prints. Best paper and price for watercolor. Can you help me with this. Do you have a video covering this topic?
@EllenBrennemanStudio6 жыл бұрын
A lot will be based upon what requirements you have such as what type of paper you want to use, whether you want to offer drop shipping and how much you're willing to pay because papers vary greatly in price. The company that I used before I bought my own printer was FinerWorks.com and they did a great job. They offer many styles of paper, some geared towards all mediums and others that are textured and more appropriate for watercolor. I don't currently have a video covering these particular questions so I can't help you there, but hopefully this info will lead you in the right direction. Good luck!

I have been thinking about making prints of my paintings, but I don't know how to price them.
@EllenBrennemanStudio6 жыл бұрын
Verna, that is a question every artist struggles with, I think. Things that will determine your pricing will depend on how long you've been selling your paintings, how many followers you have, whether you will be offering limited edition or open edition prints and whether you're printing yourself or having a printer do it for you (and on what type of paper). Make sure your final price covers your cost as well as your shipping supplies so you don't short change yourself.

I've never physically taken my work to a local printer before because I have yet to find one that I really like. I use an online POD service for larger works and upload a high res image that I've had scanned, or, if the painting was too large for the scanner I had it photographed, then edited first. Hope this helps!

@@EllenBrennemanStudio Hi Ellen, I hope this is ok to ask as I am sure you are very busy... I have some paintings in another province which I am hoping to have a family member take in to a photographer so I can have high resolution images put into a jpeg.. [that is how it is done? Does the photographer supply the proper jpeg for this? ] Does the photographer know what numbers [sorry for ignorance] the high resolution images need to be put into the jpeg of my varied sized paintings so I can take the jpeg to a local place that makes giclees or prints or an online place to make giclees and prints? What is a fair price to expect the photographer to charge for images in this way? If fair to ask you.... Thank-you for any help!! :)

@@Isaiah-hy2xf from my experience, the photographer provides a raw (unmanipulated) high resolution image of the piece for the artist to edit. I have paid around $25 per image (raw), but if you expect the photographer to edit as well in order to make the image print-ready, the cost will go up. When I photograph my larger works I still have to edit them before they are ready to print. I do this by tweaking the color, white balance, sharpen, etc. in order to make it look as close to the original as possible. Hope this helps :)

Excuse me, I have a question, What is the name of the another printer? And how you ship your prints? Is expensive? Thank you so much ❤
@EllenBrennemanStudio7 жыл бұрын
Zeta G. Hello! 😊 I ship my prints using Etsy and it's mailing service and United States Postal Service. I currently have a Canon Pro100 printer that I use for printing. Thank you for your question; I hope it is helpful.

Do you coat your prints with anything so the ink won`t run or bleed?
@EllenBrennemanStudio Жыл бұрын
no, I do not coat my art prints. Thank you for your question :)

What printer did you end up outsourcing to? I need a resource for larger than 11X14” prints. Thanks

I outsource to Finerworks for drop shipping purposes and have had great success with them :)

Hi Ellen! Thank you so much for this informative video!!! I was wondering, does your paper cutter cut matte boards too? I'm having a hard time finding one that will cut a matte. I purchase the actual mattes that I use but a friend of mine owns a frame shop and she gives me scraps to use just as backing boards for mailing only prints. Anyway, I appreciate all your advice!
@EllenBrennemanStudio6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Helyn! I am able to successfully cut my backing boards with this cutter without issue so I think it would work well as long as you don't require a fancy cut (like at an angle) :)
