It looks like you had the stereo link engaged on the Art Pro VLA. That results in an inferior sound when using the compressor from my experience.
@yannikmarcus9788Ай бұрын
why is that the case?
@SoCalxSurfsАй бұрын
@@yannikmarcus9788 As far as the mechanics go as to why this results in sound degradation, I don't know. Something is possibly being introduced into the audio path when the stereo link is engaged. An IC chip? I don't know. But I own this compressor and do know the sound quality is effected when the stereo link is engaged. Others have stated this observation as well.

Excellent video! I have the VLA II and need to learn how to use it on my mix bus. I'm really not sure just how to connect it to My Cubase DAW. I'm using a Presonus StudioLive series 3 mixer as my interface so I think I have enough routing capabilities, I'm just not quite sure exactly how to do it. It might just be time to get a patch bay. If you can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Wow great video is surprising that the differences is just about test and not the price, the ART really sound great 😃

What tube do you use in VLA II?
@AtTheSourceStudios2 ай бұрын
@@feliciagal9752 stock for drum bus I thought was nice but mix bus tung sol is the best for open top end better width IMO
@milanthedrummer22 күн бұрын
Why only 2 db gain reduction? I think the difference could be heard only when pushing the compressors more. You could just basically not even compress... and then say wow they are almost identical... like comparing a formula 1 car with some regular car driving 10kmph...

I got a VLA and could NEVER use it on mix buss because it overloads way too easy and I ain’t turning my mix down to use it on mix buss. Seriously this thing whines bad if your level is too hot. It’s an ok sounding comp. No character at all it’s pretty boring but does do a decent transparent compression. It ain’t gonna pump if you’re into that

The SSL is good for mix bus it has a tad less bass and it makes it all sound cleaner and tighter the VLA has a bit more bass in it and I would use it more for individual instruments but in general they both sound very very close and good.

VLA is a bit darker, no? I have the VLA and a G Comp clone...never shot them out. Still...super close in sound. A "dry" version would've been cool to compare with.
@AtTheSourceStudios7 ай бұрын
Yes the VLA with stock tubes definitely has a rounder sound to it but also more dynamic so it's tricky, not a 1 to 1 comparison really. Optical vs VCA. In the past I changed tubes to TungSol and was very nice for mix bus. Brought out the clarity and controlled the low mid/lows a little more than stock. This comparison was back to stock though. Which g comp clone do you have? I've had quite a few before getting the SSL

@@AtTheSourceStudios I was listening on my studio monitors, but…you know…the KZbin compression algorithm…I think I missed some of the nuances you mentioned. I’ll try to compare my two units soon, and chime in with something more valid. Both are great units and worth owning (especially the VLA).

I think the G comp sounds a bit better and punchier but still the Art Pro VLA 2 is very good for the price. I got mine for 200 euros :)
