I think actual art regression is extremely rare, only occurring in cases where someone hasn't drawn in an extremely long time and have actually forgotten their foundations, and cases where an artist's ego makes them think everything they make is flawless, thus no longer seeking to improve, and not self critiquing their own art while making it. Even then I've only that happen like once, with an artist who was bragging he was so good he didn't need to do sketches anymore and would just start doing his final lines immediately with no revising... And he was also caught tracing when he was making a commission, so.

He charged someone 200 dollars for a commission and then traced somebody else's fanart of the character for it

4:37 Thank you for this!! I have MDD and a dissociative disorder. It altered my art significantly, my art feels forced sometimes and i feel better when doing small art projects. I barely show my art given the fact most of it is drawn during episodes and depict serious stuff. I havent given my all in my art for a while. Dissociation is serious, it affected my ability to feel and express things (same goes for depression) and im seriously glad you covered this.

There are VERY few cases of artists i know actually regressing in art and it’s when they get really old and physically are unable to draw well anymore (Gregory S Paul being my main example), changing style does NOT constitute “art degradation”

I completely agree with you on this topic. And as someone who is still coming back from art regression (mental health), it is a term I feel hurts really bad. People should bring up each other instead of bringing each other down.

See ? This is why you never take context away from words. There's a reason why certain words have meanings that should not be used as buzzwords. Art regression is a real thing and it's often painful. Also, people online really need better hobbies than dogpiling on other people

FIRST OF ALL THAT IS AN ADORABLE MODEL IT LOOKS SO MUCH AWESOMER second of all. vaseline yum third of all oh my god ive gone through art regression a few times, both from my own lackluster of mental health and also limitations of my tools against my will that made me regress it went on for a while because of unforeseen consequences and it was such a devastating time to me, i was scared my art has gotten really bad and will stay that way for reasons id rather not get into, but despite those feelings i sufficed and im aware if i had the skills before, i can have them again, and now ? honestly, now its pretty fun to see how my art can both be considered 'bad' or 'good' and how im capable of producing both ends of a stick, like as with my current profile picture its polar opposite of the quality i can create and it makes me happy, so i hope those who suffer regression can feel at least a bit better or have a shred of hope and just enjoy creating in one way or another im so grateful that i did not [and still dont] have enough publicity to have people go @ me for regressing and not always being better than ever before, guh. i feel so bad for everyone who has to go through any form of that

i remember some time back, i showed a friend some art, [ex friends now] i was pretty proud of it, but the first thing she asked and said was ''has your art reggressed'' and if it was satire.looking back, it doessnt look the best i admit, but it really upset me, i was in a decent mental state at the time so i dont think that was the right word

I have art regression because I stopped bothering to color and render my art, I don't even draw on big canvases anymore; I now only really draw stuff on 500px canvases or less. If you looked at my old art, you'd say it was alot more detailed and better.

i think im experiencing the same lol, but mostly due to bad memories, and i dont want to make my art public, so i dont bother about it anymore. i mostly make messy doodles and sometimes color them however, i say if you are still able to render like you used to, i dont think you are experiencing art regression, but it may be best if you practice it a little so you dont forget

Well i used a art style that is kinda detailed but its hard to finish due to school but its much easier with pencil drawing on paper so i used other style that is simple mostly on digital arts So i dont regressing my art. school is slowly killing me but thanks to CattaZ, Da Kyunn. Kendallaka Cristina, and some ppl who makes animation memes for giving me inspiration. But i feel bad for puppy chan but lottie, her actions got so worse

Art regression CAN happen, but it’s not in the way a majority of people online say it happens. It is a disability thing. As your mind deteriorates if you have alzheimer’s or dementia, if you are an artist, you can start to forget how to art. It also happens if you have untreated mental health issues, your art can suffer greatly. A lot of ‘tortured artists’ that we hail as the greatest artists in the world suffered from chronic untreated depression, yet even their regressions are seen as masterpieces… but we also never saw what didn’t end up on canvas. Now-a-days, we get to see it happen because people post everything online. Their meltdowns, their episodes, their art. Everything they believe is worth the attention or lack thereof. Cases like puppychan? That’s an unfortunate case OF art regression but it’s because of untreated mental health and no healthy outlets to grow, but Cassiepillar isn’t art regression. Cassie’s done great and actually has improved, but we’re in an age where anonymity and hate gets you farther online than being genuine and nice which is awful.
