At age 24 I ordered a new 1975 Grandville Brougham convertible Silver with White Top Black Leather Interior with every option Pontiac offered. A Stunningly Beautiful automobile. I drove cross country from Michigan and that car hugged the road and handled amazingly well. Loved that Pontiac!!!

Seeing this Grandville Brougham Convertible brought back so many great memories of the one that I owned from 1988 through 1993. I would still own it today if it hadn't been ruined in the Paradise Creek Flash Flood of 1993 as my Insurance company totaled it and refused to restore it. It wasn't quite as well equipped as this model. Mine didn't have the optional 455 (standard 400), no cruise control, no air conditioning, no power seats. It did have power windows, power top, and remote deck lid release. It too had the Rallye Wheels, white interior and top -- only it had red interior trim. Mine was Onyx Black for the exterior color. It was one of my favorite convertibles. I still have one convertible, a 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz in medium blue metallic with white top and white leather. Thank you for going into such detail!

Boy o boy o Boy!! That Grandville is absolutely beautiful for sure. Great colors, love the black/white interior contrast. My 73 Caprice had the 60-40 bench seats as well. Love those white pin stripes, the great cockpit themed dash and the nice seats. I'll bet the previous owner has been kicking himself ever since foolishly letting go of this car, but I'm sure he is thrilled that it went to Art and has been lovingly preserved. The corvette he traded for is probably gone by now as well. I agree, this Pontiac beats out all the other GM convertibles for sure. Those windows work mighty nicely, Tony must have serviced them. Never really understood that scissor jack convertible mechanism, but sure seen more than one that was "out of whack". Always dreamed of owning my 73 Caprice in convertible styling, but this Pontiac has just gone to the top of my wish list.

I agree with some of the other comments about the purpose of that second switch. I think it allows the front seats to pivot forward to gain access to the rear seats only if a door on the same side is open, otherwise the seat backs are locked in place for safety reasons. I remember when some cars didn’t have a locking latch, just pushing allowed the seat back to pivot forward. I never heard a beeping fasten seatbelt warning on a GM car that year. They did have a System where the Starter would not engage if the belt wasn’t fastened first. There were many dead batteries the next morning if someone left a heavy object on the passenger seat, as this would activate the sensor, draining the battery due to the current draw.

i have one too...much more basic than this exceptional and loaded example. Red I think was the most popular color. they just have a graceful way of moving down the road, super boaty but still well controlled with the RTS. People are amazed over the size of the car, and that it's a Pontiac...a lot of people assume its a Buick or Cadillac. Exact same top between all the fullsize convertibles these years...in fact my car has a bit of an Eldorado top in it when I had it repaired. the Chev and Pontiac convertibles were the topline trim, the Buick and Olds were the lower trim models...all based on the B body and not the larger C body. This is my fav of the scissor tops, along with the 71-72 Centurian.

What a creampuff! The Grand Ville Brougham was a specific top of the line model. This car is odd to me, in that the white seats are usually only installed in a "full" white interior. I wonder if they have been replaced/recovered, or if this was a true special order. It certainly is nicely equipped! And Tony, GM split bench seats of this era were typically unevenly divided -- Pontiac called this the "60/40 seat". Not like those of our beloved FoMoCo cars. In the brochure I found online, only one 455 is listed, and it is not described as "high output", and no factory alarm was listed, though the option list is clearly not complete. MIght the switch be for a seatback release or aftermarket alarm? I love that you put the boot on it before going for a ride -- I always did when I had a convertible. Again, thanks to Art and to you for sharing/featuring this great car.

Tony, the extra switch is probably for electric seat back lock release. The Grand Ville was actually the same inner structure as Olds 98, Buick Electra and Cadillac de Ville. It DID share glass and roofs with those cars. The advantage to the scissor action convertible top, which was pioneered by AMC on the 67 Rebel and Ambassador, was a full width back seat. The Nash Rambler had a motor driven, cable actuated folding top when it was first introduced back in March of 1950. Art's drop top Poncho is nothing short of magnificent!

Wow! I didn’t see that hiding in the garage. I love the big Pontiacs. The ‘75 was the last year, as Art said. The rectangle headlights were Granville exclusive. The Catalinas had round ones. There were two engines. A 400 with 185hp and just one 455 (it wasn’t an HO) that had 200hp with 7.6-1 compression ratio. The 455 did 0-60 in 11.5 seconds but it felt faster with gobs of torque. I had a 75 Grand Ville with 55,000 miles that I gave $400 for. It ran real rough and the lady thought it was a goner. Just needed some vacuum hoses, and ran like a top for the next 100,000 miles. The only thing that ever broke were the u-joints. Had to replace that drive shaft twice. On this car, it looks like the only option it doesn’t have are adjustable pedals. Those are RALLYE II wheels. Those are Rallye II wheels, the 455 HO was never offered in the Grand Ville. The Grand Ville was a separate line and not a trim package on the Bonneville. The official term for the top is an “inward folding” top which allowed it to be completely flush with the deck lid. I always pulled the fender liner for blower access.

What a lovely car. I know what this bodystyle rides and feels like. It’s been a while since I have been in one. I agree the 75-76 Pontiac was best but we can’t discredit the 72 Buick and 72 Olds. 75-77 Eldorado is a hard car to call ugly also. As far as that button I think it’s that seatbelt alarm. Top button. Never heard that sound in any GM car nor have I ever seen a double door jamb switch. It has to be part of some safety kit probably saved on insurance rates.

That other button might be for the ignition buzzer when you open the door with the key in the ignition.

I don't know. It's strange because cars for years have had buzzers and only one switch. If it was mine, I'd have to follow it it see where it goes! 🤣

In Cadillacs of that era, the second switch was used to operate an electric front seatback release mechanism. There was an electric unlocking mechanism to fold over the front seats (when the door was open) to enter the rear seat on either side of the car. No need to fiddle with a manual seat back release button.

Hi again Tony, Art has a very nice kolektion of big cars, and this one looks very nice in red color. One question about I think there was a speed camera there on the road, is it so? Her in Sweden we hav a lot of cameras on our roads and it cilld the fun of it. Nice video as usual Tony👍.

Tony, When does Art get his own channel? 😉😉 As a kid, we had family friends who drove this Bonneville's poor Canadian cousin called the Pontiac Parisienne. It was a coupe and I can't imagine how many kids we had packed into the back seat😁
