Great haul! So what Schminckes does for their half pans is just use the same tube paint and pour them in the half pans, same paint, same formula. The reason why they feel different is bc the paint is dried and has been dried for awhile. BUT good news you dont have to waste your money on buying half pans from Schmincke when you already have the tube paint (because the paint is the same as in the tubes)-all you need to do is buy empty half pans from Amazon and pour your tube paint in the pans and stir them up with a tooth pick or bobby pin and let dry for a few days and VALA you have Schmicke half pans without the wasted $9 for each. As far as Im aware the only brand that use a different formula of paint from their half pans is Sennelier, Winsor and Newton (possibly Old Holland and Maimeri (but im not sure for those 2)). Also regarding the Etchr Sketchbooks- the 'perfect sketchbook' is supposed to be highly quality and heavier paper at 300gsm. Where as the white everyday sketchbook is only 220/230gsm. I have many versions of the Etchr and the 'perfect sketchbook' is my favorite. Also as you mentioned you can paint the white cover of your everyday sketchbook if it gets dirty- alot of art youtubers have actually made a video about painting the cover of their Etchr everyday sketchbook-might be a fun video for you to do too, id like to see a video of you using some of these supplies to make some art, please🥺!! Anyway great haul and thanks for sharing, much ❤ Also i apologize for the unsolicited advice lol, im crazy about waste and such too. 💙💚

Thanks, Nadeane! Haha, I guess I was too excited so it didn't make sense! I was questioning specifically the tubes from the Volcano set, mine had a different consistency. The formulation seems different, to me?!? I've used Schmincke tubes and half pans for years, and could never tell a difference before? But, maybe it's just my batch. Which may be the case, because Jackson's is not carrying the 5ml set of the Volcano set anymore. Yes, I'm not sure about Maimeri or Old Holland either. But, Sennelier and W&N use different formulations from their half pans. But, I will try to figure that out this year! Lol Ha, I'm so sorry I must have rambled on a bit when I mentioned to check out Schmincke's video on how they fill them four times, drying in between each layer. Thank you for the comment so everyone will know there is usually no difference between Schmincke tubes and half pans! It's definitely more affordable, and for me buying the perfect half pan is just for convenience. Then I refill with the tubes...but I'm more obsessed with watercolors than anyone needs to be! I use the Schmincke half pans, because the amazon half pans aren't the same size and I'm too OCD to have them differents sizes and colors. ;D Luckily, Sennelier and Daniel Smith and I think everyone but Schmincke, Royal Talens, and Holbein use the standard size half pans! Thanks so much for clarifying all the info!!! I should have been more clear, but I was just too giddy with my new supplies! Haha, I don't think most people would care if their half pans are all bright white and exactly the same size...only me! LOL Thank you for the info on the sketchbooks, too! I listed all the info in the description box, but others may not look at that. Now that I've had a chance to play the with the sketchbook, the Perfect Sketchbook is my dream come true sketchbook! Except the price ;( Please, keep sharing your comments. Sometimes I just get so excited, and I often forget things "on camera". I want to share these videos to help people, so the more info the better!

I just found your channel and subscribed! Will be binge watching your videos while I paint! And….Wow, you have so many great professional artist quality art supplies!!!!! You must make a lot of awesome artwork! I would love to see videos where you use the art supplies to create art instead of just swatches. I would also love for you to give your opinion on art supplies after creating a few pieces with them and maybe even compare them with other supplies. And I would love to see a video where you do a sketchbook tour/artwork tour of your artwork! Also, do you have a video of your art room set up? I watched another one of your videos, and your daughter is very lucky! I would have loved it if my mom had an art room full of quality supplies that we could create art together with when I was younger! It’s so great that you not only support her passion for art, but you share that passion as well! My mom doesn’t create art but rather collects and enjoys viewing it, so I try to make her a few pieces a year. She gets them custom framed and hangs them up in her home and switches them out yearly when she gets new pieces…but I would have loved it if she created art WITH me too!!!

Hi Evelyn, welcome!! Ha, I hope you enjoy! I have tried to test out all the colors and all of the brands, but nobody needs so many supplies!! I discovered my love for art supplies late in life, at 37. I rushed to catchup, so to speak. I'm also sent many products to review. So, I often try different brands in order to give an honest review. I will be making more videos creating too. I've shared a few but, people seem to mainly enjoy my hauls. Lol Yes, I really wanted my daughter to have nice supplies I could never have had. I've made a bit of a game of selling things or use credit card rewards to fund my love of art supplies...I highly recommend it! I do have an Art Studio Tour on my channel. I'm very picky about keeping only what I use and love, and storing it pretty. ;D

Lovely video! :) I just bought a dot card of the 40 Schmincke Horadam Supergranulating Colours too and wanted to check out some swatch videos. :D Oh! And I think the "gel-consistency" coming out of the tube paints, could be the binder separating from the pigments. I think there are a few videos on that on YT how to handle that. I have the Quinacridone Gold Hue tube paint do that, so I'll definitely go and look it up too. Otherwise either putting the tube paints in pans might help - there you can mix them up again very nicely(!) with a toothpick or something similar, or maybe try to mix the paints and binder IN the tube with a toothpick directly - this might end up being very messy though, soooo.. yeah. xD I mostly use the half and full pans though - just as you said, they are amazing that way and I like them in pans more because I rarely paint giant watercolors where I might need heaps of colors at once. greetings~

Thank you!! Oh, you have some fun coming your way! Enjoy ;D Yes, sorry I wasn't more clear in the video. I was curious if anyone else noticed the Volcano set being different than other watercolors. It's very different from any of my other tubes of watercolors. Thank you for clarifying for others, there is usually no difference! Haha, sometimes I'm too excited and I guess I didn't make sense (someone else commented the same as you). I've made a whole palette of just supergranulating colors and I used some perfect half pans, full pans and lots of pans I made myself. @@TheGypsyChic1 oooh! I found that comment and read it all now . Yeeeeah~ I got excited to reply to the video instantly I guess, and didn't read many of the comments (although I usually do). whoops! :) btw. I never knew, Schmincke has such a different half pan size than other brands! Because I have only ever used the Schmincke watercolors in pans since I got my first starter palette gifted as a teen and just as of last year tried a few Schmincke watercolor tubes - mainly so I can fill the colors I used up again. I kind of want to have the same quality pans than the original ones and am thinking of getting the ones they sell, but even here in Germany they are a bit expensive for "just" being plastic pans. Might need to sleep on that decision a few more nights. :D Thank you for replying!

No worries, at all! I obviously was too excited to make sense. It won't be the last time ;D I'm very glad you commented and I often do the same! This was fun to see but I wish you had used more water with the swatches so we could see the magic of the paint. You painted them pretty thick with just paint and it’s hard to see the beauty during the swatching. Also, etchr perfect sketchbook is a step above the white sketchbooks. It has fabriano artistico paper for the paper which is excellent. I love Schmincke also and I love some of these granulating paints but find I prefer my primateks often. The primateks are just hard to beat. I think I will order this swatch card and swatch it out to see if there’s any that I just need to have. Thank you for the video!

Thank you! Yes, you are right but I wasn't sure if this paper would hold up to more water and this is my forever swatch card. I may swatch all of the colors out on Arches, if I ever get time, so I can show their magic. I just really didn't want to hype them, since they are new. Thank you! Yes, I agree. I've fallen in love with the Etchr sketchbooks, now that I found an easy way to paint the covers. The Perfect sketchbook is pricey, but the best sketchbook I've ever tried. After my review of the Etchr sketchbook they sent me, I told them I would love if they offered a TN insert made from the same Fabriano Artistico paper. I think the dot card is so fun, and then you can look up the pigment info, to mix your own no matter the brand. I should compare DS to Schmincke sometime. I purchased some more and have not had time to share, but I do still love some DS! I do still love their Primatek line, since I do not sell my artwork. You are very welcome. Thanks for the comment!

I like this budget paper, as it shows granulation. amzn.to/3F7r8Ij As you learn more, you might want to swatch on the paper you will be painting on. But, in the beginning I recommend just using any paper you won't be afraid to use or waste. Save nice 100% cotton paper for painting. Also, you don't need many colors to learn!!! Have you tried the Super Vision granulating water colours!!!! There are loads of sets even some with mica in, the rose Ash is stunning, I've bought the layering colours, spun sugar and mermaid sets, there are a few artists on you tube that have given them bad reviews and I don't understand why they are really lovely!!!!

Hi, Sue! I adore Schmincke, as well. So sorry to hear the SG sets were a let down for you. I ordered the small sets first, and I'm glad I did. I bet you could sell your sets on eBay and get most of your money back. ;) I loved the first few sets. But, I'm on the fence with the recent set...as I found my Volcano yellow to be a bit odd, but maybe I just received a bad batch? It has a gel like consistency that seems odd. I have loved most of the Schmincke Super Granulating colors, though. I do think they made an error, naming them super granulating. They are just granulating, to me. I think Schmincke stays pure in formulation, and I don't think they add boosters and dyes like apparently Daniel Smith does. Oh, wow...I haven't had the Super Vision granulating colors on my radar. I can't follow your explanations. esp. the one, where you say, you had to order the half pen to see, if you used to much pigment!? I use tubes all the time and I let them try. it is quite easy to take out a small amount. how is the rationel working to spend money on a pan, just because it has been dryed more? at this point, after about 15 min I am already overwhelmed and had to quit. I know you are doing this for free and sharing and all that, but you know, you are talking to others and you want them to follow your train of thought. and the first 15 had been not easy anyway. because you start and then stop explaining. If I would sit next to you, I could ask you in between, but as this is not possible, it is just too hard - at least for me
@TheGypsyChic12 жыл бұрын
Sorry you had a hard time following, I had a few others that I left confused as well. I have ADHD, so often my brain works much faster than I can verbalize. Especially if I'm excited with new fun art supplies. ;D In this video I was trying to describe the trouble I had with the Volcano Yellow. I swatched it without letting it dry. You are right, it works much better if you let the paint dry first, but I often don't have time. I have used tube paint and pan paint for years, as well. It's the first time I had an issue. The paint had a gel like consistency from the Volcano Yellow. It was not economical to order a pan, if was for my personal use of knowing if I hated it or not. Lol Luckily the pan was better, as was my next tube of Volcano Yellow...but the pigment behaves differently to me. Sorry my channel isn't for you, but I appreciate you taking the time to leave me feedback and being polite. Thank you and best wishes. ;)

@TheGypsyChic12 жыл бұрын
Hi Mikelle! Thank you for the request, I'm sorry I won't have time to make that video for awhile. But, I completely understand your emotions and struggles! You can look up the pigment info on the Jackson's website easily to see each color. Just so you know...I'm a mom too. I often sell things that no longer bring me joy, and I use those funds to splurge on art supplies. Or I use credit card rewards. ;D Ok, I'm going to leave a super long post...but I used to be you! Lol If you are on a tight budget and want to learn color theory. These paints and many colors are really just a fun splurge. I have another video you might check out of my granulating palette that might help you kzbin.info/www/bejne/gabSaqiYqNWZgK8. You can set up your own palette with any brand of granulating paints, just focus on the pigment info mostly. Each brand has differences, but not night and day different. I actually think Roman Szmal paints would be amazing for you!! They are affordable and have many beautiful colors, even dupes of Daniel Smith. Sadly they are only available at Jackson's. There are other affordable brands like White Nights or Van Gogh (a great student brand) that are lightfast. I recommend focusing on the pigment info, not the brand for you. I know it is a lot to learn in the beginning...and you want to learn it all now because it is so fun. I was the same way! All of the things are so fun...but it's a journey... you can mix most colors with about a dozen colors and the brand doesn't matter near as much as the pigment info. After that it's pretty much just all splurging for convenience or fun. If you are really wanting the SG colors, you will want to purchase Volcano Yellow and Volcano Red and then most of them are convenience mixes. You can get the joy of trying the new convenience mixes by using the dot card. I feel is worth the investment for $8 at Jackson's. Then you could see what colors you have to make your own. Tubes would be more much more cost effective for sure, but you may want half pans for the convenience (like I often do). I have not found them in the USA for a price I'm willing to pay. That's why I shop at Jackson's so often. For most products not made in the USA, they are much more affordable at Jackson's. For example, currently DickBlick is charging $13.89 for ONE tiny half pan of Cad Yellow Medium or Galaxy Pink. That is insane! At Jackson's it's currently $7.89 for Galaxy Pink, and $7.07 for Cad Yellow Medium. I would LOVE to order from the USA, but I won't overpay to do so. Also, Jackson's often has sales, my haul videos are usually me sharing what I found on sale. Jackson's is in the UK but has good shipping rates to the USA. The last time I ordered, it was $3 and my order took about 2-3 weeks using Tracked Shipping. If you place a larger order, make sure to use the DHL not FedEx. I would recommend you keep learning and mixing and use the pigment info to play and make new colors. Keep a wishlist, and then splurge when you can on the convenience mixes you use the most. I hope that helps!
