Thank you so much for swatching these! I was hoping someone would before the sale at Jackson’s was over. I do urban sketching and think this set would be great. I don’t always add a sky and if I do, I don’t like my skies to be granulating. Funny, I love it when other people do granulating skies but I don’t like mine🤷🏻♀️.

You found your set! So you would add a non granulating blue to your palette?
@018Cat Жыл бұрын
@@filsartjourney yes. I have a small travel palette that I always take so I have my favorite blue in there. I would just throw this set in my backpack as a fun addition.

Well, I really like the Urban set. It’s for us City dwellers I suppose … cab yellow, brick red, asphalt neutral, etc; particularly here in the Mid Atlantic US. Urban sets are for the colors we need to paint what we see. East Coast US Cities are grungy & people tend to wear dark colored clothing. I figure the Urban set is for the Urban needs. Thanks for a very good review.

I think you are right! In the Netherlands we even have gray skies (like today 😂). The Yellow and Green are my favorites and I think Schmincke has released a lot of blue super granulating colors.

Thank you! I was looking allover the www to find the pigments used in Urban Yellow and you are the only place I found the answer! I was curious because there aren't many granulating yellow watercolors. Now I know what it is, I don't think I need it. And thank you as well for the YnTiCo Red and YnMn Blue; curious colors, but not necessary. Sorry if I'm being a spoil sport 🙂.

I LITERALLY have both of these colors in my shopping cart. Thank you for saving me $70.

Wow $70 is a lot! The YInMn blue and YInTico red retail for 20 euros each and that’s expensive!!
@zlee11 Жыл бұрын
@@filsartjourney yes, $35 each. The blue is too similar to French Ultramarine to justify it. The red is really close to ruby red. I paint landscapes, so I really don’t need it. I’ll look again at the YM blue when Daniel Smith releases it. They probably will do a better job with it. 👍

@@zlee11 I have seen a video about the daniel smith YInmn Blue, but no other information. Im interested in the Daniel Smith version and would like to compare!

Lovely paints, and I enjoy a good swatching session! A note if you're interested: the Italian brand A Gallo has a Yln Min Blue that rewets like a dream, and their Pietra Rosa I swear is an excellent alternative to this new red if people like the hue but want something a bit more accessible. A Gallo aren't exactly cheap, but their offerings are fairly consistent, and the quality is unbeatable. Their Yln Min and Lapis Lazuli watercolors are the best I've seen anywhere in terms of rewetability and color pay-off.

I have been interested in A. Gallo! But dont like the fact that their own site keep selling out within a day.

Thank you for the swatches. Would you ever consider to make larger swatches in the future please? These are granulating watercolors, they need large expanses of water over textured paper in order to travel unencumbered and to develop their granulation/color separation.
@filsartjourney2 жыл бұрын
I might consider swatching out all my super granulation watercolors on rougher watercolor paper. Thank you for the suggestion!

Oh! I have PY 159! It's W&N Lemon Yellow Deep and it's granulating. I think it's the only yellow that is. So I'm going to play with it to see what it can do in mixtures. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for so much information,I found the urban set for 22€ on ebay,but I'm scared I'll buy the same colors I already have(I have some granulating one's) I HATE it,that some of the paints use so much filler or seperate,but only a few in all these sets,but It's still not nice
@filsartjourney Жыл бұрын
These paints don’t seem contain much filler (if any). Its just the volcano yellow that’s a little fuzzy and can separates so keep an eye out for that.

I bought it from Amazon: www.amazon.nl/gp/product/B0895RL7DV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The price has gone up.... I feel like the paper you used for the first page of swatching didn't have severe enough texture to bring out the full potential of the granulation, but I'm still very grateful for the swatches! As for the uses of Yintico red, maybe you could try using it in mixes if the color itself doesn't fit the subjects you usually paint?
@filsartjourney2 жыл бұрын
A rough watercolor paper would really show off the granulation! Im thinking of using the Yintico red in the similar way as the potters pink (mixing it with earth tones to have interesting granulation)

The YInTiCo looks like a dupe of A. Gallo’s Pietra Rosa 😂
