I love my Dr. Ph Martins, but they are the only acrylic inks I have used, besides some Speedball. I do love using Windsor & Newtons inks, too.

Never used their acrylics but Dr Ph Martins' have the most beautiful, vibrant watercolors

I am curious. I've never used liquid watercolor before. Do they behave like conventional colors, and how hard/easy is it to control values? I'm from India, and these are quite steeply priced here. So, I've never been able to take the plunge.

I use acrylic inks with dip pens, but only use water based inks in fountain or tecnical pens.

Has the acrylic ink gunked up your fountain pens in the past? -Lauryn, Art Prof Teaching Artist

@@artprof It would. I would NOT recommend putting it in a fountain or technical pen. Dip pens are fine, because you can dip it into water and wipe the nib when the nib starts getting a little gunky.

I looked into the Ph Martins. What put me off is that they only provide pigment numbers for a very small number of their inks. Those are single pigment inks, the rest are all mixes which they don't provide pigment numbers for because the mixes are "proprietary". I don't think that's good enough if you are supplying art materials as being supposedly of professional standard. Schminke and Golden Hi Flow have the largest collections of single pigment acrylic inks. Sennelier does have a huge colour range, but they are largely multiple pigment colours.

Yes, if a paint is going to be sold as a mixture, I need to know what's in them because it directly reacts to the other paint I'm mixing it with! -Lauryn, Art Prof Teaching Artist

I love using Ph Martin - vibrant colors, easy to mix and create new colors, fun to add drops to an empty bottle with a bit of heavy body white acrylic paint and water to create pastels - just shake before using, plus they are vegan and cruelty free. Their India ink drys more matte than their acrylic ink - and they have a wide variety of colors. It’s also fun to wet your paper first, then drop the ink in pools of water…to see it spread on its on or blow/tilt your paper….let dry and add more layers. I love using microfiber washcloths as painting rags - the kind sold as makeup removal cloths - super absorbent and they last forever.

Painting is work but super engaging and I love getting it right. The effort is almost effortless at that point.

Can these be used on on ungessoed watercolor paper or will the watercolor paper absorb the acrylic and make it fade, just as it would do with heavy acrylic paints?
