@@DionneEguono Someone off camera is speaking to him in Zulu. I can't hear it through the applause properly but what I can make out is something like "Yo, Sbuda. Hurry up, we've already left. Let's go!". Sbuda, on screen, then goes to turn the electricity off. This is significant for South African viewers who've experienced rolling blackouts that we call Load Shedding as the 'load' of our power is 'shed' to elevate our power stations' grids while government works on fishing the new ones that will more sustainable power us without fear of malfunction. (Edit: It has just been revealed that Tyla’s stylist and BFF, Thato, provides the spoken Zulu line that was recorded and pitched down. It goes: “Awu Sbuda. Manje ses’ phumile, ses’ klokile. K’tshayile! Asambe”. Which in English is: “Yo Shuda. We’ve already left, we’ve already clocked out (of work). It’s over [as in the work day, the situation or whatever you wish to expressed is done]. Let’s go!” A little extra context: A phone call or conversation [as this could be a voice note] like this would most probably have been taken place on a Friday at the end of a work day with everyone at work most likely heading out into the weekend. Weekends and holidays are a very vibrant time in South Africa, more in particular Johannesburg where Tyla is from. So if somebody gotta tell you to hurry up before you are totally left behind, In this case to the PARTY that is TYLA, then you better HURRY! 💃🏽 Edited of the Edit: Thato also reportedly directed this stellar performance ✨

@@StellarFaerieYou think that only when something is played in the US it is considered all over the world. No one in Africa is playing or jamming to Art like they are jamming to Davidio and Buna Boy songs. Even in Europe, people are moving away from RnB and opting more for Afrobeat. Tyler does more of RnB which pleases the American audience, which was the main reason she got the award. They awarded RnB over Afrobeat; they didn't award Tyler. Moreover, all she's got is water, and water is dying away already. Her debut album sucks, and the biggest track "Art" in the album is not doing good. We don't even hear it here in the US. But I still hear water sometimes. Buna Boy and Davido have huge advantage over Tyler because they have huge African base fans. Tyler doesn't because all she cares about is to please the American audience, and this will hurt her soon. Africans are jamming to afrobeat like Buna Boy and Davido songs, then we try to push it to the world to expose and display our culture. But Tyler barely promotes anything African or South African; she does more of RnB to please and promote American culture. She's not really breaking any barriers like Davido and Buna Boy. The difference is clear.

I mean, that’s how the real artists used to perform back in the day. Imagine artists from the 70s, 80s, 90s moving around on stage and singing live. It’s refreshing to see someone singing live but it’s shown how downhill musical performances have gone.
@kennethlgabriel9 ай бұрын
@@soulserenade.kcn1992Precisely! There is no difference in vocal performance from now to then. Some techniques have probably changed based on style; however, the essence of stage performance hasn’t changed. Looking back on Aretha, Patti, Gladys, Luther, Whitney-they were defining artists because of their talent and consistent use of their natural abilities. Today, especially in pop and R&B, you see a heavy reliance on assisted audio. I understand some performances need it for effect; however, some artists of today base their whole career on it. The OP said singing live can be hard. That’s not a profound statement because if you are to be a singer, that’s business as usual. You train to overcome the challenges so your performance is great. There are still singers who don’t rely on it today who I think are awesome (Yebba, Tori Kelly, Chloe, Halle, JoJo, FLO) and have stated their inspiration comes from the aforementioned singers. Nonetheless, I appreciate Tyla and her team bridging Amapiano to the US mainstream music culture.

People talk about live singing these days like it's manual labor. It's not That difficult. We all sing live in our homes lol. If someone sounds weak live, it's because they have a weak voice, period. What she did here isn't a major feat, and she didn't have some major obstacle to overcome on stage. She just isn't a powerful singer, and that's okay sometimes for entertainment. But people these days exaggerate like these artists are singing opera, just because "the mic is on". Well duh, I would hope so with average vocals like this.
