Maybe you can talk about why you started your painting the way you did in this video? I know each surface is different but I myself have not painted on wood canvas/panels before. It'd be cool and helpful to know. Also, I wanted to say I'm so excited for this new painting!! I can't say it enough but you truly continue to be such an inspiration. It made me so happy seeing your process in starting this painting. I loved when you revealed that you'd be doing a self portrait. I'm not on your level but I actually bought my first big canvases maybe a month ago & I plan to do a self portait on one of them. So I love that you as one of my fave artist is doing one too. Tulips are one of my favourite flowers after roses, and chrysanthemum, lilies, carnations, forget me not and Daisies . As Roses was the first my mum and dad gifted us, me my brother, and little sister. in plates individually . Chrysanthemum was gifted to me by a friend at the Uni. Jess, your video is great. Matilda reminds me of my beloved cat Annabelle, who was by my side for 19 years. She traveled with me across the country by plane many times from Rochester NY to Malibu CA and to Charlotte NC… always under the seat in front of us… she had such a calming demeanor as well as extra toes. Her fur was a shade or two darker than Matilda’s. She always was around me no matter what I was doing… your videos with her always bring a big smile to my face. It’s so remarkable how cats can affect people the way they do.

No, but I basically put tracing paper to protect sketchbook paintings in between each page! And if it’s a medium that does longer I leave it to fully dry before closing but usually don’t use oil in sketchbooks. Just acrylic, gouache and watercolor that dries to touch very quickly.
