Watching you draw those lines oooover and OOOOVER again made me realize something about art: it's not about taking it slow and making it absolutely perfect on the first try, but doing it a million times and waiting for something beautiful to pop up by accident. :-) And that way's more fun! Thank you!

As a noob, I'm literally on day 2, this is SO helpful. Watching you "struggle" warming up has made me feel better, I was getting so frustrated yesterday I thought that this medium was not for me. I did find putting a piece of paper over the tablet a bit helpful, but using these exercises should help a lot. Thank you!!

Make sure to keep your wrist locked, and draw from the shoulders Practice these: Lines - Draw them at a 45 degree angle. Put down two dots and connect them. Try parallel lines. (one after the other) Circles - Ellipses - Ellipses are basically circles in perspective. I's useful to remember that. Drawing Cubes - After this, you can fill the cube with Circles/ellipses. These help you practice two things, perspective and lines, almost simultaneously.

Great videos! I bumped into them a month ago when I realised I needed to get back drawing after a 30 years gap. Been loving the way you explain each step. It's not just the concept of drawing teaching that is different from similar videos but the fact you cover most of the question learners can have during the process. I'm a teacher, by the way. Tnx.

@faunoram It should be very non-strenuous on your wrist and hand. The stylus (tablet pen) should be held the same way as if you were writing.. not too close to the tip, but at the start of the rubber part. Make sure you're using your full arm motion to draw. Your wrist shouldn't be doing any work, and your fingers should be doing minimal work. Keep the tension level minimal and do fast and smooth strokes. By the way, all of this is important in traditional drawing as well.
@sinixdesign13 жыл бұрын
@toiler1 I would say tablet since getting good control on that takes more time and effort for a lot of people. As a bonus, you don't have to worry about running through supplies! Both forms are greatly beneficial though.

You have such a calm, free and easy-going vibe around art, I am just very tense a lot because I want to learn and improve and I'm studying everyday with this "focus" face, how do I become more casual about it? Or does it come with experience when you get better at it?
@briemac47807 жыл бұрын
Personality type. I'm the focused perfectionist. Nothing wrong with that. Could try learning more about yourself via 16personalities-dot-com. The more comfortable you are with your style, the more "casual" you'll be. Also, muscle memory. Just keep arting.
@Oshyano6 жыл бұрын
just don't stress so much. You're probably scared to make mistakes with your art but honestly, you learn out of mistakes, nothing wrong with it. Just don't take it so seriously

i don't have issues with making a line that reaches from point A to point B in 1 try, or a perfect circle in aboyt 3-6 tries, or a box, what i find difficult is stability of my hand, there's no questioning it since i always used a heavy mouse and i just started using a tablet 3 days ago, my stability is quite trashy to say the least, and also drawing things from my mind is one challenge that i'm yet to overcome, but i have confidence in my potential in these fields, you helped me learn a lot of things about art, and i thank you for that
@keyki20056 жыл бұрын
TehProTrollBoi stability will come to you through muscle memory if you push through it. you need to draw something from reference many times in order to draw it from memory, and don’t think that just because you’ve seen something so many times you won’t need reference. Our brains keep symbols not accurate photos of objects so we all need reference the first few times we draw something. Hope 2 months isn’t to late for a response😂

I got to your channel recently through your newest videos and your art is amazing, which made me wonder, since this video is pretty old (and I do today pretty much the same you did here with the same struggles hehe), have you changed your warmup exercises in all these years? And if so maybe you could please update this video? If not, are your results better faster with this exercises?Thank you again

my practice is i do circles, boxes, a wire mesh that i have to fit over 300-500 line not touching, and lastly a figure 8. Believe it or not the figure 8 done with hands not stylus are craazy hard usually coming out disproportionate. Lastly I came here for more ideas and thanks for the 3d box exercise ill incorporate that since having flat exercises tend to get boring and monotonous.

Ciel try any most viewed channel with such a request: how to draw male (or female). Check for most viewed and subscribed. There you go.
@vanishingmoon17 жыл бұрын
Ciel you have to do some face studies. What I mean is just look at a face from real life or a photograph and try to draw the likeness of that face on paper. Also learning at the same time the proportions of the face is very helpful. If the drawing doesn't come out looking like what you observed, then you have to keep practicing and keep learning how to see. I recommend the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards.
@tehprotrollboi64726 жыл бұрын
brudda, look at what you want to draw in your mind, look at the parts of it which has what you practiced in it, for example, the eye has in some cases parallel, and in all cases, lines, which you practiced, or a circle for the pupil, which is also a thing you practiced, and so on, im still quite trashy at drawing faces, that's why im sticking to practice for some time

@tehprotrollboi64726 жыл бұрын
even if it's 2 steps forward, 1 step backwards, you're not going backwards, you're slowly going forward, and that's what you want to focus on, set a goal that's out of your comfort zone but not impossible for you to do, even if its something as trivial as perfecting this kind of practice 1% a day, aim to beat who you were yesterday

This is great but you should be able to do all this first attempt on paper. If you have to ctrl-z constantly when you could just draw and scan and have it perfect you don't need to do any of this? Once you have muscle memory you dont need to do this.
@Klasmus110 жыл бұрын
But isn't that what warmup and practice is for? To create muscle memory and also get the blood flowing? The end-goal should be to do it accurately and therefor shouldn't really matter if you can't do it right the first time, that's what practice is about. If you can do it accurately and right from the first attempt then you probably don't need practice but that's not really the point of this video.
