A couple details left out of the intro: The projectile speed on E was abysmal and you pretty much couldn't hit someone unless they were CC'd or asleep at the keyboard. Pally himself gave it the name "limp dick" at the time to articulate its ineffectiveness. Additionally, The shield given when you take damage wouldn't trigger unless under half health, and I *think* that it initially didn't happen until after the damage was processed, so you could die to a hit that the shields might have saved you from. Now it triggers at under 75% health, and feels a lot better. Arty is my boy, and he suffered being undertuned for a long time before they struck on this really fun version of the character.

yes, his shield was only reconciled after the damage event had occurred meaning you could get stunned at full health and deleted before any shield would proc because of how stupid the trigger conditions were, another thing also, once you were above the threshold for it to trigger it could sometimes disappear, if you got healed by a health globe or something taking above the 50% HP mark while it was active and then because it recently triggered it would be on cooldown and wouldn't be able to proc again, i think that was fixed pretty quickly but my memory of back then is a little hazy now (i have mained him since he released but haven't played much for the last couple of years now).

@@osvaldas96 yes but it was speeded up how fast it will activate when the criteria for it to proc have been met, before when he was released and for a long time afterward it was possible to die from a damage event without the shield ever going off because the game couldn't reconcile the events fast enough, meaning that many times people playing artanis at the time would die to situations that today might not lead to them being killed or at least the trait would trigger as expected and work as intended.

Does anyone else remember the shield build for Art a long time ago where it was possible to 2v1 people from 30% health? He was the tankiest of boys if you could keep attacking. I remember them nerfing it and artanis felt real bad to me after that.

I tried that build after about a 8 month hots break since it was my favourite build for any hero. The idea that you had to stand your ground and keep attacking to be tanky really excited me. Sad to see it was nerfed bad.

Although he only had shield below 50%, the amount was significantly higher, 20 sec cd, a Q talent at lvl 7 to increase cd reduction and finally 100% increase in shield amount which would gradually decrease to normal in 3 secs on lvl 16. He was the one true badass.

@@Sigma6987 Oh im not talking about the lenght of the game.( not mainly ) Not sure if i saw a lvl 30 game ever, but i did have unnecesarry drawn out games with missed corekill oportunotys etc. en mass. The overall chaos , tilted players and stuff like the feeder he mentioned. Thats what happened on a regular basis in my experinces. I should mention that i was mainly playing quickmatch , which makes things even weirder. It was so extreme that at some point i just could not have fun anymore, i took everything too serious . One might say i was addicted to this game , because if not: i would have stopped already long before i did ;-) Dont get me wrong, Hots is still a great game with lots of oportunitys to have a good time - if you are with the right people and if you have the nerves. Me, i deinstalled few months ago. Might give it another try in the future, after Pallys A to Z. Its simply more fun to watch him for now and play other games myself which i completely neglected.

@@therisingphoenix00 I totally get that. I'm a horrible glutton for punishment; I play healer in QM. And I've been so stubborn that I've constantly held onto a chance that "the next game will be better", often without it getting better. Despite playing since the beginning, I've only recently reached a point where I don't play without friends anymore. It's just not worth it. Too many bad players ruining my games, even simply because they lack common sense, in a game where teamwork is so important. I finally realized how bad it was really making me feel. I don't play to babysit potatoes (hence, "potato babies"), life is too short. I'm lucky that all my friends still play the game, and that I've met some good players along the way. (Despite the problems, it's still a better experience than LoL.)

Might I note though, he did really play quite mediocre.. Like.. always walking in the rexxar's vision so the enemy team always knew which way he was going in and stun-root-lock him was soo cringe all game, then he gave quite a few deaths for no reason, going 1v3 or 1v4 in tfs he did not have to.. Granted he had a bad team, and nova was so bad, he did not do what he should have done to win it, the enemies were bad.

just to clarify for you: Amateur Opponent was always a talent choice at lvl 1, however it was only a 75% dmg bonus against minions, it was before the johanna 'change' where things were given their own classification of enemy type and this talent got changed to also effect mercs and bosses etc, it wasn't until later on that they buffed it to 100%/125% and eventually to the 150% dmg bonus it gives today.

I remember when Artanis came out and I pledged to make him my primary character. There was a shield build you could do before they put 197 cc characters in the game and you could 1v1 every other character as long as you kept right clicking. Those were the days. I like current Artanis, but sitting at infinite 50% health shield build was my glorious purpose. I called it Artankis

Loved this vid. Pro(ish) tip, if you don't wan to get deleted by KT + laser drill take the shield talent at lvl 13. Halves all spell damage while shielded and for a few second after for just a bit less salt in your game. Also 42:15 if that swap on KT landed was probs game. But hey that's why you love Artanis. Can make amazing plays, but if they miss your quite likely screwed.

Man that match may be the longest weirdest matches I've seen. To see some of your team mates just walk out into 1v3's just to die past the 20 min mark was insane, but more insane is that even with those kinds of misplays the game still carried on for 39 MINUTES! Just wild.

Artanis has settled into a place where he's become my fave hero. Currently my highest leveled hero and is a blast to play. Getting cheeky swaps is super satisfying and if the enemy team lets you get stacked you can do insane damage. I've had games with 700+ stacks and was 2 shotting all the enemy DPS with basic attacks

#1 rule of Ginji: don't ever have only 10% hp, he will arrive out of the ether and kill you. Rule #1 for Kal'thazod: don't ever have only 10% hp, he will ult you from across the map. This map took so long for several reasons, but mostly because everyone but alerak and pallytime were CONSTANTLY running into battle with 10% hp trying to trade with Ginji.

I miss when Artanis was a tank that could shit out massive shields forever if he wasn't CC'd. He's closer to an assassin now with how small the shield is and how Shield Surge doesn't work until 25% health now. No way to disengage either, once he's in, he stays there until the either the fight ends or he dies. It would be so much better if you could cancel Blade Dash early so you could use it as an escape tool.

I know you like that bigger shield thing for this guy, but I always liked the one that helps the shield cooldown go by faster. With that three hit talent, and attack speed stuff you can make that shield be on a ton of times and make it hard for enemies to lower your health if they don't CC/Blind you enough. Helps when you don't have a healer to make you more durable, but that's just me. Sorry you had to suffer for so long in this vid though ahahah

This match was rough to watch as someone who has seen multiple games go 30 and be able to pin point where it could have ended. Honestly im surprised you've never had a match go 30 before, the longest match I've ever had was about 48 minutes long, well into 30 30 territory and it felt just mind boggling to play.
