There's another story similar to this one. It's about a boy named Sipriotes who like Actaeon stumbled upon Artemis bathing and was caught. However the goddess gave him a choice between either dying or being transformed into a girl. Sipriotes chose the latter and spent the rest of his life as one of the Goddess's followers. While Sipriotes' transformation could be seen as either a blessing or curse depending who you ask, it's certainly better than being turned into a wild animal.
@MsCassidy23

The myth is probably a beautiful metaphor. This is how I interpret it: Actaeon represents mankind. Artemis as a goddess represents the nature of the universe. So, when you try to unveil the secrets of nature, if you do it without care or respect, horrible things can happen to you. Think of a modern world example like GMOs or eugenics. Modern men try to see nature in all its "nakedness" and I am not sure we're considering the risks properly. The beauty of Greek mythology is that it is perennial because it can always be reinterpreted to suit modern life. :)

The best punishment for God's is to separate them from all other, and close them for eternity. So that they would all live in close space where they all would live forever... Making their very own existence pointless, oh and let's not forget that the world would be the same no mater what they have done, they can't create anything living or dead, nothing grows or dies, making all pointless and so this state will last till eternity and beyond and no matter if they will commit suicide or not on the next they come back to living with their whole memory of incident included, oh and they can't erase their memory as it will recover and they renember everything in 100%. In short they live lonely, pointless, tasteless and emotionless lives till eternity, the best punishment for God's.

It's a normal thing to bathe in streams or lakes in the past. Do you want the goddess to bring her followers to a bath house every time they wanna take a shower? And I'm pretty sure those weren't invented yet since it was only created in the Roman times.

to everyone who thought Greek Mythology are rosy and happy, just know that those are just modernized and romanticized versions of the original stories, just like how disney removed the darker origins of many of their disney princesses stories. Despite what people like to think about Greek deities or even many of the other ancient cultures pantheons note that many of are actually monsters and degenerates and often times would actually be hated today if not for our romanticism of their stories.

exactly, they have variety too, Zeus was cruel and many times unjust, but Hestia was nice, lovable, and the noblest of the Gods.
