I haven't read any of Andy Weir's works yet, but Artemis is consistently the only novel of his available at my local used book stores. Just been waiting to see the Martian to grab both.

I wish I could read a lot of books and actually finish them like you. I'm actually working on books and I was able to have one published. It's called "Amy and the Faith Scouts - The Diamond of Dandasterton." It's a novel and it took almost a year to write it. I'm so happy it's finished and published. I'm working on other books right now and the fact that you read so many books last year is an encouragement to me as a teenage author to keep on writing. Happy New Year!

Excellent review of the book. I want to compare the book with the movie Casablanca. The lead character in the movie is Rick Blaine. He is an intelligent, charismatic, strong man who regularly breaks the law. Although he appears to be selfish and self-serving, he ultimately sacrifices everything for a cause. Now, imagine replacing the lead actor, Humphrey Bogart, with a short, sassy, and sexy young actress, Jenna Ortega. The movie would fall flat. Replacing Rick with a woman would utterly fail. It's not believable because, contrary to recent cultural delusions, men and women are not interchangeable in every circumstance. For the same reasons, I found Jazz's character in Artemis unbelievable. Women who are intelligent, sexy, short, and young find easier ways to make money than cheap criminal smuggling. They might be criminals, but they are not cheap smugglers. I also found Jazz unlikable. never felt like cheering for Jazz. She was unlikable and immoral. She wasn't a The character of Han Solo in Star Wars is a scoundrel, but he is a charismatic and likable scoundrel. Jazz was selfish, self-centered, and a little bit nasty. Now, before you accuse me of misogyny, I really liked the character of Administrator Ngugi. She is a manipulative, conniving power player who is a brilliant and skilled leader. She makes things happen-she built the first city on the moon! Her character is entirely believable. I liked just about everything else about the book. I just can't get past my disbelief and dislike of Jazz.

Great review Jonathan. I’ve heard from others as well that this is a big step down from the Martian. I definitely want to read it, but I’ll go in with average expectations.

Love your channel, Jonathan! It's nice to see someone with the same beliefs that enjoys sci-fi and fantasy books like I do. I felt the exact same way about Artemis. Project Hail Mary is much better, but still doesn't top The Martian for me. Hope you like it

I love project hail Mary. It's super preachy on climate change, and evolution which can make it a bit jarring for a Christian to read. But man the story is just (chefs kiss)
