I would not consider any book from the now closed Lit-verse a standalone - they all relied on the overall continuity way too much. Also, Before Dishonor was a turd.
@jonathankoanКүн бұрын
The books were interconnected, but I Meant standalone in that they weren’t directly part of a specific series like Destiny or Prey. Otherwise I would probably have to do the same with the post-ROTJ Star Wars EU books.

I personally love the FH Hexalogy. I will says that his writing style was definitely a learning curve for me which forced me to re-read pages or even chapters sometimes. With that being said, his ability to convey philosophical/political ideas, introduce great characters, build a world to an insane degree, and make you challenge existing beliefs was what kept me hooked. Currently on Chapterhouse but my favorite out of all of them has to be Heretics of Dune. What allowed me to keep reading with an open mind after Messiah was coming to the conclusion that this is no longer a Paul story. I definitely want to checkout the sequels FH’s son wrote as there’s SO many layers within this universe!

I really enjoyed the first 3 books of the Sword of Truth - I need to re-read them. Thanks for the reminder. You should read the Gap Cycle 5-book series by Stephen R. Donaldson - it's a space opera with horror and grimdark. Book 1 is the weakest, but it really takes after that. I need to re-read that series too.
