I still need to get that A Stitch In Time book. I have all the other numbered books in the DS9 series. I couldn't find a copy online for less than a million dollars so I passed on it. I keep hoping my local used bookstore will get a copy in someday. I liked Splinter Of The Minds Eye. I read it a couple of times back when it first came out. I guess you could say I'm one of the OG Star Wars EU readers, lol. Nice haul, I predict there will be many more in the future, prepare to build a book fort or have an un-hauling, the choice is yours. 🤪

Have you ever read a book where the humans on earth, their activity creates energy that is being siphoned by aliens? I feel like the MC found out about this in an outer rim or desert setting…. Sorry my mind is hazy, you just know deep cuts.

If I remember right I heard that was James SA Corey's first book together, and yes it was coincidentally the last EU novel. So funny. I need to get to it. I love the Expanse and Mercy of the Gods by them. Very curious what star wars looks like to them.

Somehow, everyone online has been praising these Medstar novels. Like you, I felt really let down by it, and that after loving Shadow Hunter. I'm glad that Reaves got to do a similar type of "mundane people in a war" story with Death Star. I finished it today, and it's a whole lot better!

I'm not a huge Dune guy - tried reading the book 5 times before I finally finished it on the 6th, then I read Sandworms of Dune to see how KJA and BH finished the saga, and then a friend wanted to read Princess of Dune (the most recent, I think), so I read that one too. So hilariously I've read more KJA Dune books than Herbert ones. But it's just not a world I really enjoy, and none of the characters really draw me in.

It promotes some very progressive themes, such as the parents being ok with their daughter having sex outside of marriage, even for her being a teenager, there are quite a few Blasphemous episodes when it comes to Chrustianity, particularly from Jay, and it promotes homosexuality, and towards the end of the series deals with themes about transgenderism.

Read these as a kid as they came out and loved them. Just met Ed beard and got a signed Lord Soth poster last year. So I tracked down some used copies to read again. Only halfway through the first but yes, a chore is a good way to describe it. Kind of ruining my memories. Very low level writing and kind of absurd premises throughout. Will get through and hold onto my good memories.

It's hard to take booktubers seriously when they apparently can't say anything substantive about a work of fiction, so instead they just pile on the adjectives. The world-building is "superb," the characters are "engrossing," the writing style is "amazing," the themes are "fantastic." Wow.... That's all so NOT insightful! Are we really this mindless? Can't they discuss a work of fiction on a deeper level than merely gushing about how much they like it? It's already implied that they like the book, otherwise it wouldn't be on their list. Instead of just saying the themes are fantastic, tell us what the themes are. Instead of just saying the writing style is amazing, describe the writing style.
@jonathankoan
@jonathankoan 5 күн бұрын
I do understand the critique of not being substantive. I view individual book reviews as being the area to focus in on substance, but I could try to include more substance in ranking videos in the future. I usually try to make ranking videos go fast, so I try to not spend too much time on a series, and that means sometimes the substance does get missed.
