Excellent Review I haven''t finished yet but I'm about to. And I looooooove this story so much that I want to see the movie already. BTW... If you enjoyed Artemis, You're gonna love The Martian. It's a completely different story plot but with that catchy way to write Andy Weir has.

I'm currently reading this book! :D I'm halfway through and oh man, I have mixed feelings. I mean, I LOVE the concept of the first city on the Moon, the whole construction and how the life is evolving in those particular circumstances, I ADORE the nerd spirit with which Andy describes all those technical stuff, I love the action, tension, etc, etc... The only "problem" that I'm having so far is that Jasmine is a little "too much" for my liking. I hope I'll change my mind once I finish the book. I'll let you know :D ...and you should totally read The Martian! This is one of the very few cases when the movie is actually pretty much the same as the book (I found maybe 2 minor things that were different but overall I was impressed). I was so invested, that I read it in one sitting!

Wonderful video, Emma! Book talks are just the greatest! I tried reading The Martian a while ago because I had heard so much about how great the book is. And when I started reading it I truly truly did enjoy it; it was funny and SO unlike anything I usually read. However, the science lingo really took me for a whirlwind. And maybe, it's because I tried too hard to try to understand it, but I had a hard time getting through it. But you've motivated me to pick it back up! So I'll definately try my hand at The Martian again and perhaps even pick up Artemis!

I haven't read Artemis, but I have read The Martian and I really enjoyed it. The Martian is very heavy on the scientific aspect (it's sci-fi duh) but like there's a lot of focus on making certain chemical compounds and other scientific elements. I loved it because I love science, but if you don't like science I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

In The Martian he does explain the science of what the character is doing and I think you'll really enjoy the book!

LOL SAME HERE. I only watched the martian - never read the book but I'm super excited for this book. I literally just picked it up and am only a few pages in but i'm already sucked in and excited to finish it for the #24in48 challenge!

Emma doing a book review? Have we entered an alternate dimension? XD I really think you should read The Martian, but be prepared for more of the esoteric jargon typical of SF. It's a great book, and the movie is amazing. As far as your review goes, I love Scifi books that have deep characters. Sometimes, especially in classic adult SF, it's more centered around a central narrative, with characters merely being flat drivers to the message of the book. I was shaky about buying this book, but now I think I'll get it. Thanks, Emma!

I haven’t read this yet, but it sounds like I had a similar issue as you when it came to The Martian. There’s some technical things there with mathematics and engineering. I struggled over those passages too because I really wanted to understand them.

Have you the Mistborn Trilogy? I feel like the main character is also a well written young lady written by a man. It surprised me actually how much I ended up loving the series. I'm the opposite of you in that I usually read "adult" fiction/sci fi rather than Y.A.

3:04 I wonder, what would you consider a stereotype? I've never read this book, so I guess this isn't my place to talk, but based off of how you describe the main character, she sounds to me (in my personal opinion) like a stereotypical female character. I really hope I'm not coming off as rude or anything, I just honestly wonder what you would consider a stereotypical female character. It would seem to me that in all books I've read recently about a female character, she's always described as smart, resourceful, strong, and beautiful and she knows it. I mean, Divergent, The Hunger Games, Red Queen, Virals, the list goes on... it seems smart, pretty, powerful girls are the new 'trend' (for lack of a better term) in writing lately. And although there is absolutely no problem with a character like that, I just think that's one of the reasons I'm having a hard time finding books I like, because I feel like I've read that story before, I've seen this character in other books. Again, I don't mean to sound like I think she's a bad character by any means, I just wonder what your opinion on a stereotypical character is. ☺ Sorry that this is ridiculously long 😂.

I had the opposite reaction to the female smuggler. In the movie Casablanca, Rick Blaine is a strong man who regularly skirts the law. Imagine replacing Humphrey Bogart with Jenna Ortega. The movie would fail. Replacing Rick with a sassy Jazz woman fails every time it is tried-and it is exhausting how often it is tried. When will the culture get past feminist delusions that men and women are interchangeable? The character of Administrator Ngugi works. It is believable that a woman could be the mayor of the city. The character of Jazz fails because it is not believable to cast that role as a woman. I give the book a thumbs down for the unbelievable character of Jazz.
