Our artesian well is causing us a few problems that we need to resolve before we can begin building our off grid earth sheltered house!

We were lucky enough to have a stream bed just downhill from our artesian well. Our driller installed a tube on the casing about 5' from the top. The overflow just feeds into the small stream, then into our beaver pond. It has been flowing continuously for 18 years. Nice!

I have two artisan wells on my family's property here in Riverview Florida. The world feeds our house has never stopped flowing in the 65+ years. The other that was dug for citrus irrigation and the few head of cows we had stopped flowing for about 6 months a couple years back. The artesian well has been a blessing through the years during hurricane season when the power was out.

You could bottle the water and give it to friends and family as gifts. You definitely want to save 10,000 gallons somehow for a future famine. You might as well make some kind of swimming-hole. Whatever you do, you need to keep it secret. LOL !

Artesian wells are great. We seem to have different ones here in Florida. Recharge areas are definitely not above the top of the well because everything is so flat, and yet we get enough underground water pressure from them to get a 30-gal/min free flow out of a 2.5 inch pipe.

Where about a in the Adirondacks are you located? I am in the foothills just inside the park near Remsen, NY I also have an artesian well. I am currently experimenting open loop geothermal. I took a truck radiator and ran my water hose to the bottom inlet and let it fill the radiator and the top outlet gets discharged into a drain and runs outside. I am using a 20” fan to blow through the radiator and on a 95 degree day we were in the basement and the air temp was cold enough to see the dogs breathe laying on the floor!! It kept the upstairs at around 72 degrees. In the future I will be playing with inside fish farm that feeds into a hydroponics garden before I get rid of the water!! Good luck with your ventures and we are blessed to have these wells!!

Consider yourself quite lucky I tried to have an Artesian well drilled unfortunately the ammonia level was so high the driller had to close it out I did some research and learn artificial fertilizer an animal waste basically polluting deep bedrock aquifers I didn't know those went that deep still have water 💦 happy for that just have to find another solution to get rid of the bad sulfur smell an rust or hard water corrosion of my washer and hot water heater

Wouldn't it be okay to make the well head pipe higher, maybe as much as 10 feet? You can keep the pump spigot in the same place with a good seal. Seems the water pressure is not that great as to flow out from a higher point above the spigot. In our state, it is not legal to drill our own well because of creating an unstoppable artesian spring that will flood the area. My folks had an old farm that had a well dug before the law was made, good thing it was near an existing stream for the overflow to go.

When growing up, my dad bought a ~100 yr old house that had an artesian well. Runoff went into a large concrete cistern (not sure if that's the right term). Not sure how the "cistern" drained. Also had seasonal wetlands starting ~300 yards back down a slight slope, so it might have somehow drained to that.

I have a seasonally artesian well but mine is in my basement. You can install a well seal. I put a well seal on and a vent pipe raised up about 2ft, it stopped overflowing into my basement at that point. For any build site prep is so important and you own a machine so it's nearly free.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 3 жыл бұрын
We have discussed that. We may seal it temporarily but if we’re having the pipe put in for our plumbing we may as well also have the pipe installed for the overflow at the same time. Thanks for watching and commenting. We really do appreciate the input 👍

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid I think by taking potable( underground water) and putting it on the ground your basically wasting what's in the aquifer. You have the wrong type of well cap for the type of well you have. They make sell caps that seal and allow for pipes and wires to exit.

You don’t have a problem you’re just not experienced with our teacher last night do you think it’s a problem because Never had to deal with one the only reason why it’s a problem is because you say it is but if you’ve had experience with artesian wells there’s no problem at all use it to your advantage make your own energy by putting a water turbine together and use the water is all sorts of reasons to use no they’re not a problem if you know what you’re doing

I'm sorry I did not explain well enough. It was only a problem because we would be building in that location (build just began) and the water would be a problem for our build. We know how blessed we are to have so much water and as you saw in the video we have so many plans for how we can use it! Things didn't turn out exactly as we planned with the remediation we just completed, but we are happy that we will still be able to make good use of all the overflow. Thanks so much for commenting!

Did you not watch the video? They said they had a problem with mud, which they did, then they went on to say they were blessed with a lot of water and talked about plans of how to use it to their advantage. You can turn things that seem to be a problem into something useful that was what the video was about.
