Sealing an artesian well

Moved out of the city, and now we are doing the things. Gardening, chickens..... a lot of work, but loving it.
Found this old well while clearing a trail in the woods. It was just welded closed and leaks all year. To stop the leak, dry the mud, and capitalize on the well, I add a more versatile and effective seal.

Turns out the bolt did not break, but the lower casting failed. The plumbing shop exchanged it for me. Great service!!!! Got the new one in and it sealed up nice.

Man, you are lucky it’s nearly impossible to find the plastic vent bolt . I ended up finding another split top well-seal (exact one you have ) correct size scratch and dent box got only $12 dollars with no shipping at Amazon. So now I have an extra well seal with only 4 metal screws. I think you might be able to find a comparable vent bolt at Tractor Supply for $10-12 dollars. What’s good about that store is you can order it to the store -try the bolt out and buy it if it fits. I hope this helps others that have found themselves in this irritating situation... That Artesian water is one of the healthiest living waters you could ever drink. It can be similar to striking oil on your land but then you would not have it and when it’s gone there’s no more..

Would be nice to see this finished product.. Does water seep between the seal and that 1.25 inch threaded pipe? I have artsian well and would like to do something similar to what you have done..thanks man

No. it does not seep. I did have to replace this one, as it was defective. The plumbing supply exchanged it for me and the new one is great.I have not added a pump or anything yet, but it stays dry, and If I open the valve I can get water. The rubber seal expands when the cap is tightened so there is no way for water to leak around the pipe.

Hello, does this work when there is still pressure and water coming out?

The seal in this video had a defect and cracked. The vendor warrantied it and I replaced it. No leaks since. There is not a lot of pressure. When water levels are high I can open the valve and it will flow. In the late summer and fall, the water level drops. I have another primary well on the property with a pump, but I may someday put a hand pump on this one so I can use it all year. Wish I had better internet, I would have updated the video, but editing and uploading don't go well out here. Thanks for checking out the video.

What was the part you used to cap the 1.25 hole in center?

It is just a 6” long 1.25” threaded nipple with an end cap. I intend later to replace that and install a hand pump.

@@kevinreilly4990 the well seal has 1.25" drop pipe hole? How did you plug the non-threaded hole with a threaded nipple?

@@handle924 I capped the nipple and the rubber seal has enough compression to seal it up with no leak.
