I truly did fell sorry for Armand all through season 2, I felt like he was genuinely in love with Louis. But as the season went on , I started to see him as such a pathetic fool. He saw when Louis made it know in front of he and Lestat, that him being with Armand was totally out off spite to Lestat. So with Armand seeing all that, why in the hell would you still choose to be with Louis? And then act surprised when Louis couldn’t love him like he wanted.

I’ve heard Armand described as someone who endures by making safe spaces for others. The Theatre, Dubai, Night Island, Trinity Gate. He protects his loved ones and makes environments where they can survive, and that gives him purpose. Hmm just going off the series, I haven't read the books, I think his ideas of protection and agency are very skewed, albeit by his formative experiences of terrible abuse and dehumanisation, but skewed leaning towards control and coercion. I think he literally doesn't know how to feel safe without the people he loves/surrounds himself with existing within these like really rigid structures he defines and has the final say in, so like. Idk how much of a safe space it really ends up being for those in it? Once you're in it he definitely will do anything to keep you IN. Idk about safe lol. I definitely agree about him enduring for others though. Ties back into the manipulation too.

@@nikitaashok3818 very true! His desire to protect someone who is self-destructive leads to him completely removing their agency! “Safety” but at what cost? He’s guided by trauma and fear, but there’s love at the core of it (does that make it better or worse?)

@@pikypix4852 Hey! French speaker here: I would say, it does not sound native whatsoever but it's really understandable and charming. I think Sam Reid has a voice & a diction that makes everything... velvety. Same with Armand, you can hear the sharp edges in his diction that he also has when he speaks English (I think, I am really bad at picking English accent & intonation) which as a character would make sense as he probably learned French later in his "life". The only scene where I had to read the English caption was in the Théâtre des Vampires when everyone was speaking French: there, it was so hard to follow. It has been years since I have been so enthusiastic about a show: the acting is immaculate, the writing is both witty and reminiscent of Werther's romanticism, which indeed makes it telenovela-esque. And I am in love with the art direction, the makeup, and the clothes.

I can't repeat enough how grateful I am with Assad for bringing Armand to life. I know the show got so many angry voices about books accuracy, but most of us Armand stans were theorizing about Rashid being Armand since episode 3 or so because of how Armand-coded the character was. Scripts and make up and even looks are nothing without a great actor committed to the character. There’s something that much more tragic about Armand creating safe spaces for the people he loves when no one has ever created a safe space for him… It explains why Louis begging him to take care of Claudia captured Armand’s heart. Here, finally, is someone loving and protective; someone who, even at the perceived moment of his own destruction, is thinking not of himself but of his daughter. How could Armand destroy that person and remove them forever from his life?
