Arthur Brown and a team of top musicians have recorded this classic song to raise money for the Help Musicians charity, in tandem with Spotify, to raise money for musicians struggling during lockdown. Recorded, mixed and produced entirely remotely, with each musician recording their parts in their own homes, sound engineering at home, video production at home!

I was delighted to see your video and that you were still performing. First heard your song “Fire” when I was in middle school. Always remembered the tune but after so many years (I’m in my 60’s) had forgotten the name. I think you’ll find the lyric is ‘trunk’ not ‘truck’, to rhyme with ‘drunk’. And you could argue that it should be ‘things’ not ‘thing’, but that doesn’t come out as well! 😆

Screaming Jay Hawkins predates even Arthur, and Howlin' Wolf could probably also be considered a precurson with his terrifying singing style and aggressive playing. As far as establishing the modern shock aestethic however Arthur Brown is definitely the guy to thank.

I produced the whole thing from my home studio and everybody did their part in their own homes, including a video which I edited together. I got my friend John Etchells to do the final mix once I had arranged the track. I started with a ‘click’ track and the acoustic guitar and that was how it started.

Us Aussies knew “Fire” but most never knew who did it, I was lucky enough to have friends in the record industry who got freebies every week, I had most of his records... such a waste he wasn’t better known over here, his music can outshine Hawkwind and Pink Floyd and just about anyone else...
