I had the pleasure of meeting Arthur Conley when I sang background vocals for Edwin Starr. In 1975, for two months, we toured South Africa, performing; and Arthur Conley was our opening act; with Bettye Wright coming on as the 2nd act. He was such a nice guy... and lit the stage up every time he performed. A wonderful and very interesting experience.

I toured with AC on the chitterling circuit early 70s as his drummer we hit Trenton & Newark New Jersey and the RKO BUSHWICK. Theater in Boston and Phelps lounge in Detroit our tour group consisted of Arthur Conley Johnnie Taylor Clarence Carter Dee Dee Warrick and the Manhattan's Speedo was the tour manager Otis Reddings brother was Johnnie Taylor's road manager Earl Sims was AC valet this tour was in the heart of dead winter we got snowed in Boston and could do 2 shows in Detroit before it was cancelled do to bad weather however all was not lost it gave me a chance to meet Redd Fox and Slappy White at West 20 Grand as a musician you learn how to survive in certain situations fast if I had to you bet I'd sure do it all over again musicians on the road becomes close as brothers.........Fred Burrell i'm out 🙏 peace.

I love his music that I grew up on. The audience is a prime example of racism at its best. Where are people of color in the audience just like us enjoying his music and his band? I'm very happy in today's time that we've broke the barrier when it comes to music. Especially, when Black performers only performed for a only white audience which no longer exists.

You have to keep in mind that this was new to the world outside of the US. The stax volt norway tour hit countries that had bever seen a black man much less ones with powerful voices and if you watch the crowds half are in shock but by the time the show is over theyre going bat shit. Youll see some groups in the crowd that had traveled and found this stax sound and these guys that could incite a riot with their energy . They were prob the only reason there were that many people there. Several shows had armed military guarding the stage area from the crowd. They werent security guards or cops.

@@davidreynolds4684 OH no! Everything is racist! Racism racism racism! Or haven't you been programmed yet? When the Western developed world collapses in the near future, it will be YOUR fault due to RACISM, just as it's already your fault that not one, single balack run country is even semi successful without foreign aid. No matter what your stance is. You're a racist (unless you're black of course) and there's nothing you can do about it! Better to hang it up trying to be civil about anything and take your rightful side because "they" aren't going to listen to any rational thought. That much should be crystal clear by now.
