Now that's what I call a performance! Though Cat Stevens wrote it and did his own version along with Rod the Mod and countless others, for me, its P. P. Arnold who will always own this song.

For those who don't know, she was one of the backing singers for Ike & Tina Turner duo. They were called the Ikettes. PP Arnold's version of this song along with 'Angel of the morning' were her two hits in the UK. I still have the vinyl copy of her album 'Kafunta' which was also critically well appreciated.

I've thought about mortality lately. My own family members and it is odd isn't it. On the one hand, we want to live a long life, but at the same time to be the last person at the party dancing alone is a strangely haunting thought.

My favorite virgin of this song is the 2nd virgin recorded, Cat Stevens, who wrote it and did a demo of it back in 1965. PP's hit in spring 1967 was the first recorded studio virgin. Cat then recorded it for real in October 1967 and although I like PP and other virgins of the song, I prefer Cat's original, being a big Cat fan anyway.
