The bag has a hidden compartment that secures the egg. At the beginning he puts the egg inside the bag and when he says hold it with both hands and check inside its a subtle subconscious to prevent the victim to put the hand in the bag to feel it around.

This reason this trick (and thus the magician) is so great is more than just the sleight of hand. You have great style, man. The music at the end, and the showmanship with the dust coming out of the egg, and then throwing them the apple as the music ended... just so well performed.

Gotta love it. The trick, as stated, is a classic. To those posting how it's done in the comments, I guess that's all cool, but it kind of ruins it for those not in the know. Personally, as someone who has studied magic (close-up) for several years, I find performances like this to be refreshing. Maybe the trick itself doesn't fool us, but the performance is still very unique and captivating. It's a rare blend.

I recently starting fooling around with some sleight of hand stuff. I have been a musician, however, for 30 years. its a shame at 4:36 that there is an obvious split in the live take. the audio is definitely cut and we cannot see anything that Arthur is doing when it comes to the hour glass or switching the apple around. Between that time and 4:41 Arthur has already picked up the empty hour glass - the sand obviously inside the prop stand by now. (my guess) If the bowl has a turning mechanism (I believe it does or else you'd just put the apple back into the bowl conventionally), the idea that the trick has to be completed in a certain time span is even more clever - and the hour glass obviously counts the time in which the apple will have turned around in order to turn the attention back to the apple. it is a great trick and something to experience. I love the concept but the cuts of the camera are too obvious in making this look slicker.

Just Your Shadow they give directions with nonverbal cues. by turning the glass over and freezing he gives a clear cue of what to do. The Blue Man Group (who never speak during the entire show) have a whole skit based on a random person playing their part by giving nonverbal gestures, like placing a matchbook next to a candle.

I'm pretty sure that the magician's on the show are allowed to plan things ahead of time. The magician in question obviously knows what the act he's doing is, and if Alison never tipped the hourglass back the show he's creating would seem weird. I'd assume even if it wasn't nonverbal cues as someone else said, it's safe to assume he said ahead of time something along the lines of, "The act has to do with time, and part of the show is going to be stopping time when the hourglass is tipped. I'm going to need Alison to tip hourglass back to an upright position after 5 seconds as part of the show." Alison seems to have an earpiece on so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the production team who told her to tip the hourglass back after a few seconds during the show to make sure she does what's needed.
